Production Manager / Designer / Tech Support
Downtown
24 years ago, I started my career at STC [Scott Thornley + Company]. Back then, I can remember spending entire days tiling colour lasers of double-page spread newspaper ads together, then mounting to foamboard for presentation to client the next morning — it was a big deal. On any average day, we trafficked out anywhere from 10-20 ads per day, across North America — it was work I was proud to be part of.Since then, I've been involved in countless projects for a number of clients, both as production designer and manager, and intermediate designer. For more than 10 years I occupied an essential role as production manager, ensuring the consistency and quality of our Clients’ materials across multiple platforms. I was responsible for the tender and procurement of all print collateral; overseeing the process of releasing artwork to suppliers, printers, and publications, including press approvals. I would ensure production schedules and delivery expectations were met; working daily with media plans, buyers, and their partners; managing each project with meticulous care and attention, always keeping a keen eye on the details. From the deployment of hundreds of assets for the launch of a digital marketing campaign, coordinating the creation and shipment of almost 5,000 convocation kits in little over a month, or wrapping an entire 9-storey building in Canada Pride, I've been at ground level, and all the way to the top.Between projects, I unofficially became the GO-TO for all "HELP ME, MY MAC ISN'T WORKING — FIX IT NOW" requests. I took a liking to troubleshooting and fixing people's computer problems. Pretty handy knowledge to have in your back pocket, especially when there are tight deadlines.24 years later, I leave STC with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and some very dear friends. As one of my colleagues recently called me 'Rocky of all trades', it seems fitting after all these years.
