Raised three rounds of venture capital, lead investor Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers (John Doerr).Started the Turner Hall division in ‘86 to diversify the company into utilities.In 1987 the company reorganized into autonomous product groups and I was made general manager of the first company acquired by Symantec (Breakthrough/TimeLine project management s/w) as well as for the Q&A database line. Trebled product group revenue in 3 years while generating 100% of Symantec’s profit.Grew Symantec revenues from zero to approx $250m/yr. IPO 1989.In 1990 Symantec acquired Peter Norton Computing (maker of the Norton Utilities), and I was made general manager for the merger and the business.Introduced the Norton Antivirus in ’91, which has become one of the main profit generators for Symantec.In 3 years we grew Norton revenues from approx $20mill/year to approx $190mill/year, taking the Norton group from 25% of Symantec’s revenue to over 75%. Acquired and merged the PCAnywhere business, which has become a major source of revenue and profit for Symantec.
