Profile bio

About Matthew Rodatus

I developed my first program when I was 14 -- a single page app message board in Javascript that used a Perl backend for data persistence in a JS data format. After graduating high school, I got a job working with Microsoft tech -- Visual Basic 6 and then C# and .NET. In my free time, I developed a Mandelbrot explorer in C code using Win32 libraries that earned me a full scholarship to UMBC.When I graduated from UMBC with a Bachelor of Computer Science in 2006, I took a job at Microsoft in Redmond, WA. I was on the team that developed V1 of Windows Live SkyDrive, now OneDrive. After a very successful year at Microsoft, my wife and I returned with our first child to Frederick, MD where both our parents are.Since then, I've worked at a natural language processing (NLP) research lab, HP Enterprise Services, and Swift Software. At the NLP lab, I worked with Stephen Beale, Marge McShane, and Sergei Nirenburg to develop state-of-the-art programs for syntactic and semantic analysis of free text. One application of our work was the Maryland Virtual Patient, which is an agent-oriented environment for automating certain facets of medical training. It featured a natural language dialog interface where a trainee could query a virtual patient simulated with in-depth physiological and cognitive components. At HP and Swift, I've become very skilled at working with legacy code and achieving high quality releases through automated testing and advanced build automation. I've also had the opportunity to develop very advanced and powerful enterprise features, such as HighGear's Visual Workflow System, where I led in the design of its architecture and implemented the performant embedded language that executes the visual workflow.

Listed skills include Software Development, Software Design, .Net, C#, and 32 others.
