As the Assistant Health Director / Director of Population Health I provide oversight for the county's public health agency's work related to the promotion of health and wellness through the advocacy and implementation of policy, system's level change, and community engagement. Additionally, in this role I provide leadership for the administration of the community health assessment and the resulting community health action plans and support the agency's bio-terrorism and preparedness response.

As the director of the Coalitions and Community Engagement section, I supervised and managed a unit whose chief responsibility was the advancement of policy through education, crucial community conversations, and advocacy that focuses on disparities in infant mortality and food security, tobacco use, and the incidence of HIV/AIDS and STIs.

In this role at the Forsyth County Department of Public Health I functioned as supervisor of the day to day activities of a Community Health Advocate staff, Transportation Aide staff, and a Bilingual Maternal and Child Health Educator - my duties included, but were not necessarily limited to the following: provide for the recruitment, assessment, and selection of staff, evaluate staff performance; assess, modify and redirect staff outreach and community education assignments and areas of focus; monitor and provide for staff professional development. Additionally, in this role I monitored and managed a project budget of approximately $250k. I also engaged in community dialog with local stakeholders on issues related to maternal and child health, the Baby Love Plus program, and its goals for a decrease in the incidence of infant mortality and maternal morbidity. 

In this role with the Montgomery County Health Department I was the coordinator of the county's efforts around the reduction of adolescent pregnancies. As the lead health educator, I also coordinated the health department's community health education initiatives around tobacco cessation, nutrition, and sexually transmitted infections.

In this role I was a Male Responsibility Educator with Wise Guys, a nationally recognized male oriented adolescent pregnancy prevention program (www.wiseguysnc.org). As an educator I facilitated the 8-12 week curriculum at area middle and high schools. Additionally in this role, I served as trainer - teaching other professionals across the country how to replicate the program in their own areas. While also a part of the Wise Guys team, as the program grew and interest in male responsibility and male engagement increased, I authored portions of the Wise Guys Level 2 curriculum and edited the entire curriculum.
