I provided statistical support to NHSBT Organ Donation and Transplantation, working in organ donation and kidney transplantation. I used a range of statistical methods and techniques, including logistic regression and survival analysis. In this role I primarily used the SAS programming language and occasionaly used R (usually for data visualisation).Key Achievements:Independently learned Power BI to create public dashboards showing key metrics on organ donation in the UK. Completed the Civil Service Data Science Accelerator scheme, where I explored predicting family consent for organ donation using machine learning.

Through the Civil Service Data Science Accelerator program I completed a 3-month project where I used machine learning to predict family consent for organ donation.I used Sci-kit learn to compare machine learning models' ability to predict family consent for organ donation to a logistic regression model previously fit in SAS. A random forest classifier was the biggest improvement, with a balanced accuracy of 0.75 compared to 0.67 for the logistic regression.I also explored unsupervised clustering machine learning algorithms in this project to characterise the approaches for family consent for organ donation.

I designed experiments to measure the mechanical characteristics of a 3d printed optical fibre translation stage. Once the mechanical characteristics were measured an optimisation algorithm was designed to automate the stage to couple a light source to a fibre automatically. This project used hardware controlled by scripts written in Python (using libraries such as Scipy and OpenCV for image tracking) and Arduino.
