Established the antitrust litigation department and defended the first ever dawn raids under Competition Act 1998. Defended dawn raid in the parallel investigation of global phenoxy herbicide manufacturers by the US Department of Justice and the European Commission which included an MLAT (Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty) challenge. This work forced the abandonment of both investigations saving the client tens of millions of pounds in fines and prevented follow on antitrust litigation. Defended global industrial in a dawn raid in the investigation by the European Commission into horizontal price-fixing in the market for agricultural stretch-film. Advised until resolution with the Commission Obtained the first ever successful application for leniency (amnesty) under UK Competition Act resulting in zero fine for cartel activity. Competition law compliance work for global car manufacturer and global insurer. Abuse of dominance litigation in mining sector. Defence of price-fixing litigation for sports goods company.In total attended 13 dawn raids by US, EU and national competition authorities and have advised upon merger control in 45 cases in various jurisdictions.Various EU and UK merger control clearances, US clearances and an Exon-Florio clearance (US national security clearance).
