I was recruited to add to the numbers rebuilding the engines and reduce the downtime in theatre. These complex engines are two stroke, with two crankshafts and twelve pistons running in six liners. This means the explosion occurs in the centre of the engine between the pistons. I quickly developed my skills to assemble the engines in the same time as the resident engineers.
