Palm Jebel Ali is one of a series of reclamation projects situated along the coast of Dubai and is envisaged to have a total population of approximately 190,000 people. The project is over 1,100 hectares in size and upon completion will comprise a fully integrated mixed use community with residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and various civil land uses.As Head of Business Development, Rod played an instrumental role in masterplanning various land uses across the island, identification of strategic sites for retention and development by master developer Nakheel, and structuring commercial and joint venture arrangements with groups seeking to invest in projects across the island, including international hotel groups. Major achievements in this role included: • Business case approval for:- Worlds of Discovery Dubai – hospitality and leisure development (project cost US$6.5 billion) - Crescent A Twin Towers – 572 apartments, 26,000sqm of retail space (project cost US$512 million) - Trunk Island – Nakheel corporate headquarters (project cost US$85 million) - Crescent E infrastructure – 102 ha island featuring 90 individual plots (project cost US$820 million)• Negotiated exclusive partnership with Crystal Lagoons on behalf of PJA • 2009-2012 Built Form Budget for Crescents & Trunk Islands – initial budget of US$3.25 billion• Land use master planning and DCR’s for the Crown Island – comprising 10,000 rooms of hotel accommodation adjacent to four theme parks
