During Peak Seasons, co-managed a Staff of up to 53 Full and Part Time Photography and Production Employees. Faced with a rapidly growing business and needs to grow the Production Capacity in early-mid 1980's which would require facility relocation for greater square footage for Production Efficiency Requirements, at which time the only available property within our geographic business efficiency boundaries was a $2.6 million dollar facility which would require an additional $600-$800 Thousand dollars in improvements totaling an expenditure of $3.6 million dollars including lost time, moving cost, involved with ramping back up to fit our then current and at least 7-10 year business growth outlook. Lease was no option, outright purchase required. This was not a cost effective solution to the problem at the time compared to the fast advancing production technologies becoming available within the Lab Equipment Industry at 1/10th the cost & time factor of total business relocation. It was a management decision to either Slow or stop Growing the business or find a way to handle a greater volume of business more efficiently at the same facility as a stop-gap in order to buy another 5-7 years of profits before a relocation would again become a mandatory requirement. Slowing or stopping growth is Business Suicide in any industry, so It became my mission to develop and modify some Production Equipment and Production Processes to create AUTOMATED Production Systems ultimately reducing the Number of In-House Staffing requirements to produce same level of Production to a total of 27 Full and 13 Part Time Employees somewhere between 1984-1991. Indeed this was a challenging management balancing act to not alienate the then current employee's loyalty and damage the working environment during Production Systems Development upgrades.
