Successfully brought diverse adversarial interest groups to accord on issues regarding mining operational concerns such as wildlife safety, permitting requirements, and taxation. Established productive negotiations and communication channels with the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Department of Interior, Nevada Departments of Environmental Quality, Wildlife, and Minerals, and various environmental groups. As chief government affairs officer, successfully conducted a legislative and regulatory program that avoided additional tax initiatives and involved the industry in regulatory formulation, which provided an avenue for practical and technical input. Conducted focused public relations activities in metropolitan areas where public sentiment had a large impact on issues affecting mining. This program successfully brought favorable public attention to mining’s involvement in community affairs outside its areas of operation. Created and convinced my board of directors to fund the highly regarded and often copied Teachers Workshops to instruct teachers about mining and how to use mining examples which we provided in their classrooms. Negotiated a partnership agreement with the Las Vegas school district for the creation of a series of science instruction videos using mining examples as the teaching points. That curriculum is now used statewide.
