In his marketing duties, he directly supervised 9 talented individuals that have helped him design and build a totally new website, contact database and coordinate a contact management plan that included, mail, email, phone, and business networking contacts. Rod led the effort to totally redesigned and upgraded the SOQ and RFP submittal process by organizing resumes and documenting the details of our work history. Because of the growth he was also tasked with leading an effort to develop and implement a chain of command and project management process. These structural changes also included improvements to SSE's Quality Control procedures. The success they have had implementing these changes improved operations and streamlined production. Rod consulted on both federal and state campaigns helping candidates develop a campaign plan and message, hire the appropriate staff, raise the necessary resources and execute the budget and timeline. He advised candidates on the day to day decisions regarding their races. Rod assisted them in coordinating the earned and paid media efforts as well as all their fund raising activities. His specialty was was fund raising. The precision and discipline it takes to successfully raise the necessary resources to win a campaign was what most candidates needed Rod to help with. He developed and managed their fundraising mail, phone calls, personal visits and events. In 2009, Rod's final year as a consultant his company sent over 250,000 pieces of mail, made over 32,000 phone calls, and organized almost 200 events. These efforts brought in over $2.2 million for his 12 clients.
State Representative
Rod represented the citizens in the 156th legislative district for 8 years. During his tenure, he supported policies that helped turn a $600 million deficit into a $500 million surplus by cutting wasteful spending and promoting economic development incentives for agriculture, tourism, and small business. Some of Rod's top issues dealt with cutting social security taxes, improving resources for senior nutrition and increasing funding for the drug courts. He also led the efforts on several legislative initiatives including; legal reform, performance-based budgeting, welfare reform, educational choice, reducing abortions and allowing law-abiding citizens the right to carry. As a freshmen State Representative Rod was chosen by House leadership to direct the House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC). With Catherine Hanaway leading the caucus and directing the fundraising efforts they had a very successful 2002 election. As the HRCC Chairman Rod headed up candidate recruiting and training efforts. Using the resources that Catherine Hanaway raised along with traveling across Missouri and helping candidates with their campaigns Republicans gained 14 seats - a 90 seat majority. After the 2002 election fundraising duties were added to Rod's list of responsibilities and he led his caucus in picking up another 7 seats in 2004 and was the largest Republican majority in Missouri state history. Under Rod's direction they raised a record $2.1 million in 2004. In 2006, despite the beating Republicans took nationwide Rod led his team in raising a record $3.8 million and only lost 5 seats, giving them the second largest Republican majority in state history. In the 2004/06 elections Rod was responsible fundraising, recruiting and PR plans in all targeted races. Additionally, he helped organize and hire a staff of 20 talented individuals and worked with over a dozen different outside vendors to ensure the mail, radio, phone and TV expenditures were funded and coordinated properly. At the close of 2007 Rod stepped down as the HRCC leader after helping raise a record $1.6 million in the off year of 2007. His fundraising efforts left HRCC with over $1 million dollars going into the election year. In Rod's five years as HRCC director/Caucus leader HRCC brought in over $7.5 million dollars, which allowed the Republicans to grow and keep the largest majorities in Missouri State history.

As a real estate broker Rod listed and sold homes, farms and commercial properties in Bollinger County, Missouri. He started his company in 1995 and grew sales to over $3 million a year by 1998 before deciding to run for State Representative. In 1996 Rod was elected to the Bollinger County Commission. At twenty eight he was the youngest commissioner at the state at that time. Each Missouri county has three commissioners who prepare and pass a budget each year. Rod worked with the other office holders and found ways to save money and keep expenses down. When he joined the commission Bollinger County had a huge $350,000 debt. For a rural county with a with small revenue stream it seemed impossible to pay it off. Working with the other commissioners he found ways to cut costs and save money. Without raising taxes they implemented their cost cutting measures and pulled Bollinger County completely out of debt before Rod's first term ended.
Captain
As a 2nd Lieutenant Rod was a platoon Commander in the First Battalion eighth marines (1/8) of the Second Marine Division. He also served in 3/24 as a weapons platoon Commander for two years. He was a part of Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) 22 in the summer and fall of 1993 which was involved in the Somalia and Bosnian operations. As a platoon commander he directly managed 40 Marines. He was responsible for the combat readiness of his platoon and was required to develop and execute a rigorous training program to prepare for combat operations. As a First Lieutenant he served as the acting company commander for Alpha Company 1/8 in the summer of 1994 where he led four platoons and 180 Marines during a deployment to Mountain Warfare School. Before receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps Rod was honored to be ranked as the top Lieutenant in his battalion.
