Responsible for all technical aspects of SkyShepherd. To date, we have over 20 patents and counting on the technology behind this product.This includes, but isn't limited to;- Full system design, which entails prototyping, design, and test- Provide guidance to the mechanical design team with respect to looks and functionality- Interfacing with field test teams to get feedback and suggestions to be rolled in to the product- Design modifications for test and manufacturing- Future product features and accessory planning- Patent development and support, which entails working with patent agents and attorneys to evaluate existing IP and educating them on our IP so they can effectively capture what is unique about our product

I had a few goals for taking this position. - Get re-connected with the major players in the embedded electronics industry. Check! - Show that I still have what it takes to be a technical advisor. Check! - Become a strategic asset for a global company, and maybe live abroad while I’m at it. Well… 2 out of 3 isn’t bad. Right?

I brought together a team that not only re-branded the company, we re-tooled the portfolio in about a year to bring out Conduit, Dragonfly, mDot, and DeviceHQ. DeviceHQ was intended to manage the devices mentioned, and also was meant to provide a storefront for 3rd parties to market their apps and IP. All this was welcomed by the channel, and captured the attention and imagination of customers.

Was responsible for all strategic alliances between silicon manufactures, tool vendors, hardware vendors, and Digi. Worked directly with Intel and its eco-system partners, and providing oversight on relationships with companies who employ the use of ARM cores. Traveled to Intel events around the world to speak on the subject of effectively and intelligently adding real-time data to business systems to solve problems or increase efficiency.

Grew company revenue from $3.2M to $11M in 3 years through furthering strategic partnerships, and building effective team that knows how to close and execute deals in a complex environment. This was accomplished by employing a diligent hiring process as well as implementing a mentoring program.Key distribution relationships formed were Arrow ACES, Future Electronics, and Avnet. Spectrum was the preferred wireless design services firm for those channels, and most often their FAE’s helped identify new opportunities rather than the sales team.Key partnerships formed were Freescale, ublox, Cinterion, Telit, 7 Layers, and Intel Mobile Communications. Most of these “channels” were cellular module/chipset manufactures, and they found that by sending work to Spectrum, they were able to see revenue sooner, and a higher percentage of projects actually made it to production. Interestingly, Spectrum was rarely the lowest price, but often won because of lower risk and time to market.

Co-Founded this business with a plan that focused on being experts in wireless M2M applications, and leveraged a channel sales model rather than direct sales. This propelled Spectrum to being a market leading provider of wireless design services for cellular, GPS, and ISM band applications in under 3 years.Key partnerships during this time were NuHorizons, Analog Devices, and Wavecom (now Sierra Wireless).Sold the company in 2008 to Digi International.

Managed the Texas Instruments OMAP Technology Center offering, which included formulating a training plan for clients as well as speaking at industry trade shows about OMAP, and finally advising clients on overall system architecture to optimize the usefulness of the OMAP parts.

Worked in the Data Technologies lab to help add GPS to the GSM chipset. A Patent was granted for rapidly setting and keeping time in the chipset that allowed it to get a fix in under 2 seconds for the Federally mandated E911 initiative. This IP was purchased by SiRF to be added to their chipsets starting with the SiRF Star III.Designed a prototype cellular phone based on a Texas Instruments OMAP processor that showed the possibilities of location based services, as well as compressed content distribution over a 2.5G data link.

Worked on the Cypher-II project, which was an Unmanned-Air-Vehicle (UAV). Functioned as the ground station team lead, and avionics install lead. Implemented a distributed network architecture.

Projects included; an automatic landing system, a digital yaw damper for Boeing 737, inertial navigation boxes for several aircraft, and an air data computer for the Airbus A310.
