Assisting Prof Patrícia Galvão Teles, former Co-Chair of the ILC and Co-Chair of the Study Group on Sea-Level Rise in relation to International Law, during the 74th, 75th, and 76th sessions of the ILC. Researching and providing written comments on the following topics: - The settlement of international disputes to which international organisations are parties;- Prevention and Repression of Piracy;- Subsidiary means for the determination of rules of International Law;- Non-legally binding international agreements.Assisted in the drafting of the second issues paper and final report on sea-level rise in relation to international law.I also provided research assistance to Professor Patricia Galvao Teles in preparation for her special course at the Hague Academy on the advisory function of international courts and tribunals.Previously, I worked as a legal assistant to H. E. Ambassador Hussein Hassouna, member and former vice chairman, during the 73rd session of the International Law Commission (ILC).I conducted research, provided analysis and feedback, and helped on speechwriting on the following topics:- Jus Cogens;- Protection of the environment in relation to armed conflicts;- Succession of States in relation to State Responsibility;- General Principles of Law.

Conducted research and provided general assistance to Judge Fatsah Ouguergouz, independent arbitrator in commercial and investment arbitration, former judge and Vice-President of the African Court of Human and Peoples' Rights, and chair of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Burundi (2016-2018).

As a consultant I:- conducted qualitative and quantitative research of potential partners among academic institutions, training institutes and international organizations, with whom the Department furthered its mandate of promoting international refugee law;- assisted in identifying events and other institutional engagement opportunities relevant to the work of the Academic Unit and the Department;- assisted in identifying potential avenues of cooperation with academic institutions, Stateinstitutions, civil society organizations, international organizations and donors that comply with the Academic Unit’s objectives and the Department’s mandate;- conducted the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the course evaluation forms necessary for reporting.

In 2021, I assisted the applied research projects (capstone) within the Conflict and Security track. In this capacity, I have facilitated kick-off meetings, liaised with partners, and assisted students in the preparation of various activities related to their capstone projects. I also served as academic supervisor for the project with the UNHCR and UNDP on harmful coping mechanisms among Syrian refugees in Lebanon. I provided guidance on academic writing, research methodology, and presentation skills.

Worked as an assistant in a joint Graduate Institute - IOM research/policy project to adapt IOM’s flagship publication, the World Migration Report, into a digital toolkit for policy officers, to maximize the impact of migration science on migration policy. Published biennially, the World Migration Report bridges research and policymaking through synthesis analysis of relevant and evidence-based knowledge on migration and migrants globally, while meeting the highest research standards.In this capacity I:- assisted with background research on digital tools and platforms for use by policy officials;- assisted in the creation of a survey for government officials, as well as semi-structure interview questions with government officials;- helped in running small focus groups with government officials;- collaborated with organizing and analyzing the data gathered through focus groups and interviews.

In this capacity, I provided direct support and guidance to UNHCR operations in the field, particularly those dealing with child protection and youth engagement, and liaised with relevant Divisions and other units within the Division of International Protection. I conducted qualitative and quantitative analysis on staffing needs across UNHCR operations (with a particular focus on child protection and SGBV specialized positions) for the Assistant High Commissioner for Protection. Additionally, I managed and organized the mailbox of the Child Protection and Youth Unit and disseminated information to the relevant team members. My role involved participating in the planning and organization of meetings, webinars, and workshops on child protection issues (e.g., Age Assessment, Best Interest Procedures, UASC, the 2019 CPMS etc.). I assisted with the coordination mapping of child protection mechanisms in different operations, with a particular focus on the African continent and the Americas. Furthermore, I helped in the monitoring and dissemination of child protection and youth-related developments and best practices on the child protection community of practice. I also assisted the Field Protection Service in the preparation of activities related to the first-ever Global Refugee Forum, including spotlight sessions on Child Protection, SGBV, community-based protection, and the high-level dialogue on protection capacity.

My responsibilities included:- elaborating papers on country of origin information (COI), as well as research papers on refugee protection in Brazil;- collaborating on the preparation of awareness-raising campaigns; helping to assess and address legal issues concerning refugees’ local integration through the implementation of the Brazil Declaration and Plan of Action and the Cities of Solidarity Program;- translating legal documents, such as, inter alia, advisory opinions, treaties and judicial decisions.
