About Rodolfo Jimenez, Ph.D.

My training is in molecular biology with a focus on infectious diseases. But the government shutdown of 2012 resulted in my postdoctoral fellowship being cut before I started the position. Thankfully, I was able to find a position shortly after and continue with my pursuit of student development and diversifying STEM as a STEM Coordinator at the University of Texas at Austin. During my time at UT I was able to use my critical and analytical thinking to revamp of data collection and evaluation of the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence (LCAE) that ultimately lead to new programming that resulted in an overall higher GPA, retention rate, and graduation rate for LCAE. During my time in this position I oversaw multiple programs that were funded by federal and state government grants. Additionally, I was designated as the Science Liaison for the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE). In this role I would work with various tech companies on strategic goals to make their companies more diverse and inclusive. In my current role with the Dell Scholars Program I have helped in revamping program process to make them more streamlined, used data analytics to create new strategic goals, established business partnerships that allow us to offer our Scholars more resources, created projects and programs that allow us to better serve our Scholars.

And it is this knowledge and experiences that I want to share with others. No matter your current field I want to help guide and show you how your expertise is translatable into different fields. For my higher education colleagues, I know it is beaten into our head that if you leave academia you will be considered a failure. I want to help you rewire the way you think about your career and help you realize that your career choices aren’t limited to one field.
