Rodrigo Alonso-Suárez is Co-Founder, Director and Researcher of the Solar Energy Laboratory (LES, http://les.edu.uy/) of the national public University of Uruguay (Universidad de la República, Udelar). He holds a permanent position as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Udelar. He leads a research-oriented lab that focuses on solar resource assessment, solar energy applications and energy efficiency, and provides services and technical consultancies for the energy sector. His current research is aimed to develop new enhanced tools for solar assessment and forecasting, by means of satellite images, ground measurements and other remote sensed information. He has made key contributions to the solar energy sector, including the development of accurate satellite-based models leading to high-resolution solar potential maps and other inputs required for solar energy design, the development of solar forecasting tools that enable a larger solar grid-integration and the construction of new regional capabilities in solar assessment and solar thermal testing under ISO standards. He authored more than 40 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles and has been a speaker at several international and regional conferences on the subject. He holds a Phd in the Solar Energy field and an Electrical Engineering degree from Udelar.
