The Fundação Cultural do Pará is the state institution responsible for providing access to local cultural production, stimulating artistic debate and opening up room for cultural exchange with diverse national and international contributors.The main purpose of the institute is to foster, to preserve and to disseminate cultural assets in the State of Pará and greater Amazon region, ensuring access to forms of art and to art development in general through activities in the areas of teaching, experimentation and research.Fundação Cultural do Pará has many branches and its buildings are constantly going through architectural improvements and renovations. Therefore, there is a department of civil engineers and architects responsible for those enterprises. I worked there as an assistant civil engineer and also an assistant architect.My responsibilities at Fundação Cultural do Pará involved providing all the support the engineers and architects needed, including: survey of materials and services, technical visit to building sites, daily field reports, cost estimation, inspection and quality control for various construction activities, assisting in layout of civil constructions, taking field measurements, architectural survey, providing construction management services, making sure schedule was maintained, obtaining materials and employees' payment, inspecting constructions and identifying deficiencies, providing support with architectonic projects (including a public school in a small town), using the softwares AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D and Sketchup, bid evaluation and, finally, checking if the constructions and bids were abiding to the Brazilian Standards of Civil Construction.

The University of Victoria is a renowned university located in Victoria, BC - Canada. The Canadian University has earned a reputation for commitment to research. It has many research projects in partnership with different companies. I worked as Professor’s Rishi Gupta assistant. Our research was conducted in partnership with Kryton, an international Manufacturer of Concrete Waterproofing and Hardening Products company. Kryton produces an admixture that is able to make concrete, mortar, cement paste and other cement products more resistant and waterproof. My work was to compare samples with and without the admixture (called KIM).My main responsibility in this program was to make cement paste and mortar samples with different kinds of cement, sand and aggregates with and without the admixture (KIM). I was trained to use the Scanning Electron Microscope to take pictures of these samples in the micro scale and analyze differences between them. I also learned about the Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS), a chemical microanalysis technique, used in conjunction with the scanning electron microscopy, to identify the elemental composition of the materials. There were other duties such as estimating the costs of engineering projects, gathering materials, drawing a local airplane museum steel warehouse in AutoCAD and analyzing the strength of its columns and Beams.

Worked on a building development (Ed. Torres Dumont) consisting of four residential building with 16 floors each. Provided inspection and quality control for various constructions activities including concrete testing (slump testing), foundation and structural members (slab, beam, columns). Assisted in layout including taking field measurements. Provided construction management services, made sure schedule was maintained, obtained materials, and varied qualities and payment.

Aluminios Petillo is a large construction material supplier in Brazil’s northern region. It sells all kinds of construction materials needed from the site preparation to the finishing works. Aluminios Petillo was expanding one of their warehouses and also as well as going through architectural improvements. I worked there providing technical support to the civil engineer.My duties at the company included managing workers, reviewing payment requests, ordering and gathering supplies, maintaining control of the schedule, inspecting construction and identifying possible liabilities.

Worked on a building development (Ed. Madsson Residence) consisting of one residential building with 20 floors.Monitored, controlled and inspected the services of the end of the building (Punch List), purchased and transported materials and payment of employees.
