Even though this phenomenon was discovered long ago, the mathematical modelization of some of its resulting effects has not yet been done.My work was to set the basis to the modelization of this phenomenon when spreading in a controled and constant manner. They will swell by absorbing surrounding water and shrink by releasing water.During this internship, I worked on P-NIPAM (Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)) gels. First, I improved an already existing method of P-NIPAM synthesis. Then, I used a rheometer to study the mechanical properties of the gel when exposed to temperature gradients.

Worked on the vacuum deposition of mono-cristalline ZrN (111) oriented thin films by Reactive Magnetron Sputtering for solar cell applications in space. The goal was to improve an already existing method for growing Zirconium Nitride thin films on three different substrates. As Reactive Magnetron Sputtering is a complex deposition technique that depends on a large amount of parameters, I spent most of my internship searching for the right conditions for growing stoichiometric ZrN films.
