Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning // Resilience Building // Social ProtectionMy interests lie at the intersection of Power, Poverty, and Policy. Both my consulting and research work focus on how (social) policy and programming affects the lives of people at the margins of society, especially in a development context. Working on MEL systems in Nepal and elsewhere helps me to understand the challenges and opportunities involved in bringing together organisational data and accountability needs with the realities of implementing complex humanitarian and development interventions in an ever changing environment. I take great pleasure in supporting clients to improve their understanding of what is happening on the ground, and to work with colleagues and partners in delivering practical solutions in a context where it is unfeasible to obtain 'perfect information' but where moving forward together helps improve performance. As a researcher, my PhD related to SDG 1.3 and explored how power relations shape the design and implementation of cash transfers in Southern Africa. This has given me a solid understanding of the interactions between the key stakeholders involved in social protection systems and how they interact. My postdoctoral research work focussed on Trafficking in Persons in Uganda. More specifically, I focused on stakeholder engagement and understanding what requirements they had for a Modern Anti-Trafficking Support System using Earth Observation technology. This related directly to SDG 8.7.
