About Roel Daamen
Roel Daamen received a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Hogeschool Eindhoven (NL) in 1997 and a MSc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Swansea (UK) in 1998. In 1999 he joined Philips Research (NatLab), later NXP Semiconductors Central R&D, to work on various Semiconductor Process Technology topics. From 2000-2014 he was a Philips/NXP assignee at IMEC and member of the NXP-TSMC Research Center. Followed by 2 years at NXP's Product Line Sensors (later sold to ams AG). In 2016 he joined Smart Photonics, an independent III-V Photonics foundry.Using a common sense approach, often in collaboration with Philips/NXP’s fabs and Development groups, extensive knowhow and experience was obtained on several projects/subjects. A.o. on Chemical Mechanical Planarization, Cu/Ultra-Low-k Integration, Air gaps & Electro-less Barriers for advanced CMOS nodes within the Crolles2Alliance (ST, Philips/NXP, Motorola/Freescale); Bulk Acoustic Wave filters, Contacts for Phase Change memories, as well as Advanced Packaging and 3D-TSV integration.Since 2008 he has ben working on CMOS Integrated Sensors (Temperature & Humidity, CO2, VOC gas and MEMS Pressure sensors). Several of these were brought from the PoP/PoC phase into manufacturing fabs in Singapore (SSMC) and Austria (ams).Over the past 15 years he also (co-)authored 25 papers on Semiconductor Process Integration.This lead to winning the IEEE International Interconnect Technology Conference "Best Paper Award" 2 times, in 2006 as co-author and in 2007 as 1st author. In 2012 as part of a project on T-RH sensors, he received NXP Quarterly Product award.Thus far 39 US patents were issued on Advanced Interconnect, MEMS, Phase-Change Memory, Front-End/Back-End Assembly interaction, High Voltage Power Electronics and CMOS Integrated Sensors.
