As head of department at Applied Physics and Mathematical Engineering, I was responsible for the finance, personnel and curriculum of both these departments. These two departments had a total of 30 lecturers and 700 students.

The department of Applied Physics had over 300 students and 15 employees. As their Team Leader my job was to:➢ Coordinate the implementation of the entire curriculum.➢ Perform the interviews with all staff for their job evaluation.➢ Act as an authorising officer for the budget of the department.

The department of Mathematical Engineering went from a size of 40 freshmen in 2010 to 90 freshmen in 2015. At this department I have been responsible for:➢ The complete redesign of all courses on computer programming and databases (15 ECTS).➢ (Partly) Teaching and extending the courses on linear algebra (9 ECTS).➢ Coordination of the freshman mentoring.➢ Supervision of 25 students during their third year internship (15 ECTS).➢ Supervision of 10 students during their bachelor’s internship (30 ECTS).➢ Representing the department in the board of examiners of the faculty.The department of Mechatronics had about 50 freshmen during the first two years of its existence in 2011 and 2012. At this department I was:➢ The first lecturer to develop, teach and examine the entire series of math courses (15 ECTS).➢ Representing the department in the board of examiners of the faculty.

The faculty of Technology, Innovation and Society in Delft consists of 6 departments with a total of more than 2000 students. The board of examiners ascertains whether these students meet the conditions set out in the Programme and Examination Regulations in terms of the knowledge, understanding and skills required for the award of a BE degree. As chairman I have:➢ Chaired a meeting of all the members once every two weeks.➢ Treated about 400 official student requests per year about facilitations and modifications of the examination.➢ Imposed sanctions in about 40 cases of examination fraud per year.➢ Written the annual reports of the board.➢ Concerted and conducted three central investigations in the faculty to provide quality assurance of the performed examination.➢ Defended the quality of the examination successfully for the 4 departments that were visited for accreditation during this period.➢ Been responsible for the reorganization of all the procedures of the board during the merging of the technology faculties from 2000 to 4000 students.

The Leiden University College started its honours programme in 2010 with 120 first year students. The central aim of this bachelor program is to prepare the students for the challenges that our society poses in the fields of peace and justice, diversity, sustainability and prosperity. Part of its curriculum focuses on the natural sciences. At this College I have:➢ Assisted Prof. H. de Groot and Prof. J. Hermans in the development of the course “Global Challenges: Energy”.➢ Taken responsibility for two seminar groups of 20 students each. Each seminar was a mixture of teaching, skills training, discussion and presentation for a total of 4 hours per group per week.

The research group “Atomic and Molecular Conductors” of Prof. J. van Ruitenbeek investigates electrical conductance at the smallest scales. During this period I was:➢ Assisting Prof. J. van Ruitenbeek in the coordination of the national research program “Atomic and Molecular Nanophysics” involving 11 research groups. ➢ Measuring the electrical conductance through individual polymers using lithographic junctions.➢ Implementing a gate electrode in lithographic break junctions and measuring its effect on molecular conductance.➢ Applying high frequency (>10 MHz) shot noise measurements in break junctions to study the influence of inelastic electron scattering on the conduction of point contacts.

The group of Prof. Nicolás Agraït and Prof. G. Rubio-Bollinger form part of the Laboratorio de Bajas Temperaturas, where I:➢ Designed and constructed a low temperature force microscope (AFM/STM) using a quartz tuning fork for single molecule experiments.➢ Built the electronics required for this low temperature AFM.➢ Used it to measure the local electronic properties of graphene.
