I write and speak regularly on questions of democracy, authoritarianism, free speech, law, politics, science and philosophy—and of course Hannah Arendt. I have been a talking head at the "Conversations with Shakespeare" panel on Revenge held at New York's Symphony Space, a guest NPR's "The Point" with Tom Ashbrook, and "Ideas" With Paul Kennedy as well as other NPR programs. And my writing has appeared in The New York Times, The American Interest, Bookforum, and Democracy: A Journal of Ideas. I run the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College and teach in three departments: Politics, Human Rights, and Philosophy. I am currently writing on the crisis of democracy, technology, privacy, free speech, and what it means to be human in an inhuman world. I am the recipient of the 2019 Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought awarded by the Heinrich Böll Stiftung in Bremen. I also was honored with the 2024 Compassion Award by Con-Solatio.
