Invented, patented and developed a rotary rocket engine, high performance liquid fueled engine.Developed simulation models for rocket venture using adaptive simulated annealer.

Exploring nascent hyper-text user-interface until something new appears that's more compelling.

Implemented and designed software to segment images into foreground and background, without presupposing anything about the image. Implemented in MatLab and Python, the software was connected to a web server and made available on the net. System algorithms generated 24 hypothetical segmentations based on an assortment of human perceptual mechanisms and using AI-ish mechanisms to pick good results. Venture was synergy of academic and hacker styles; stalled when business style founder moved on.

Gathered and led a team of up to 6 programmers and designers from 1977 to 1988 (without funding) and when funded in 1988 by Autodesk, hired them all (so they finally got paid).Responsible for architecture, design, coding, specification of tools, languages, and equipment, hiring, funding, market strategy, product positioning, and, at one time or another almost everything else.Coded most of the 1979-1988 design and was responsible for 60,000 lines of Smalltalk translated into 300,000+ lines of C++, including all the detailed compilation problems of the translated code.Designed and coded 4 different front-ends (browsers) for various Xanadu backends (Sun, NeXT, Mac Smalltalk/C++). Balanced goals of achieving interface user design specifications while conforming to backend protocol requirements.Debugged C++ garbage collector (incremental copying typed) & much, much more.Project Chronology: From 1979 - 1988, this was sweat equity effort supported by limited angel financing, consulting and full-time work. From 1988 - 1992, XOC, Inc. was a subsidiary of Autodesk Corporation. Release of XOC code as an open source project in 1999 – collaborated with various developers evaluating code-base as requested.
