As a mechanical design engineer, I've been responsible for a large variety of technical tasks. Primarily, my role has focused on R&D of fire curtain development, such as research of compound curtain fabrics to increase their radiation resistance and thermal insulation and the effects of heat transfer. I've also been heavily involved in both the design, manufacturing, and installation processes of our proscenium, vertical and horizontal fire curtain range. This mainly encompassed SOLIDWORKS modelling, hands-on sheet metal assembly, PLC and auxiliary control box design.

I worked for the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB), which is the governmental body which writes Australia's standardised building requirements - including the National Construction Code (NCC), WaterMark and CodeMark. I worked across 3 teams for this full-time cadetship - working in the Projects & Analysis Team, NCC Management & Standards Team, and the NCC Education Team.In the Project & Analysis team, I focused my research on building resilience, condensation, and energy efficiency. This included investigations into the adequacy of current NCC standards for future provisions, such as the effects of climate change and the effects of higher energy efficiency requirements. In the NCC Management & Standards team, I was responsible for the technical research and development of several calculators, such as the water demand calculator, pipe sizing and backflow calculator. I was also responsible for launching an investigation into the suitability of Part F2 (Sanitary and other facilities) for NCC 2025, primarily the adequacy of available female sanity facilities in commercial settings. Was a member of the Sunswift Solar Car Team, which involved the design and manufacture of a solar powered car, which competed in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Our team managed to achieve line honours and claimed 2nd place on the global stage.
