About Roger Sanford

I am a lifetime innovative problem solver who believes that Supply Chain effectiveness is the root solution to many world problems. As an Edward Demmings scholar, my passion for SCM is far reaching. I joined Apptricity as an advisor/investor 14 years ago because I saw a chance to solve global problems by automating supply chain management, making it possible to get food, water and medicine where it needs to go before it gets old and unusable. That was the basis of my leadership on the Smartfleet Product Family, now known as Jetstream. We developed Apptricity Jetstream, specifically "Field Service" to address formerly unsolvable SCM challenges that plagued industry and government. Our customers enjoy visibility into the entire supply chain, including the ability to see inventory while it’s in transit. We also help them save millions of dollars a year because we’ve removed the opportunities for human error inherent in spreadsheets, clipboards and even antiquated handheld bar coding systems. By combining technologies including RFID, GPS, and temperature and time sensors, we allow our customers’ inventory to virtually track itself and send expiration warnings.Since the introduction of our SCM line, we are helping:• One of the world’s largest communications companies save an estimated $100 million a year in losses from misplaced inventory & overbuying.• A global telecom company allow trucks to switch loads in the field without the need to return to a warehouse. If you are a supply chain executive, COO or CEO who is frustrated with issues such as supply chain black holes, misplaced or expiring inventory, and/or rapidly increasing customer expectations, read the case studies e-Book in my profile and then connect with me. If you are a product manager or business development executive who wants to develop a complete SCM solution, read my experience section to see how we can collaborate. Then connect with me to start a conversation.

    Evp Global Strategic Alliances
Apptricity Corporation Oct 2014 - Present
    Irving, Texas, Us
As part of Apptricity's growth, I have shifted my focus to lead Global Strategic Alliances (GSA's), based on successful partnerships with Alcatel-Lucent(FR), Bloor(UK), Chorus(NZ), Trimble(US), Verizon(US) and others in progress. Financial Times says, GSA's are "An important mode of doing international business. An alliance is an inter-firm collaboration over a given economic space and time for the attainment of the participating companies’ goals...more than 25 per cent of the revenues of Fortune 500 companies come from their alliances - General Electric has more than 180 of them.Alliances are particularly flexible tools – they can include 2, 12, 20 or 200 companies…They may have unforeseen consequences however and may tie companies in to a particular set of partners, excluding others (such as the Japanese Keirestu system)...An equity joint venture is a particularly strong type of alliance where ownership links are involved – the typical alliance will not necessarily involve ownership links."

Supply Chain Automation Visionary Helps Clients Achieve 100% Supply Chain Transparency
    Apptricity Corporation 2000 - Present
    Irving, Texas, Us
When I joined Apptricity the company had developed an impressive set of products, each of which solved a specific need in finance and supply chain management; but each of which existed on its own. I quickly realized that by connecting the individual products into an integrated suite, we could help our customers solve the biggest need of all – visibility into the entire supply chain no matter where it is located, even if it’s in motion. For example, Chorus of New Zealand, the country’s largest telecommunications infrastructure company, is out to make New Zealand the world’s first “Giga-country”. This effort requires a unification of three very distinct companies doing installs, each with its own inventory system and its own way of doing things. By using Apptricity Smartfleet and the resulting supply chain transparency, Chorus has been able to integrate inventory management and allow easy inventory transfer among the three companies. The efficiencies delivered by SmartFleet are helping to get New Zealand up to speed quickly.

Helping Governments & Organizations Dramatically Cut Perishable Inventory Loss
    Apptricity Corporation 2000 - Present
    Irving, Texas, Us
Most supply chain management systems in place today rely heavily on humans and bar scanners to keep track of warehouse inventories – problematic even with non-perishable items. New Zealand loses approximately 1/3 of its kiwi fruit in warehouses each year due to this problem. It’s a typical scenario. Workers need to move a crate of kiwis in order to access another crate behind it. They move the first crate, get the needed crate, put it on the ship and forget about the crate they moved out of the way. Everything gets out of sequence. The next shift comes on and can’t find the kiwis so they ship a different crate. Now they've buried the kiwis. The inventory goes bad. Apptricity’s Smartfleet products incorporate RFID technology and advanced environmental monitors that signal the warehouse manager when it’s time to ship. Not only does Apptricity let the manager know where the kiwis are, he knows when they’re nearing expiration.

Supply Chain Management Automation Expert Shows Leading Cable Company How To Save $100M In One Year
    Apptricity Corporation 2000 - Present
    Irving, Texas, Us
This leading US cable company was unknowingly bleeding money. Set top boxes were disappearing from warehouses across the country only to reappear at the end of the year – after they’d been replaced. The newly reclaimed boxes had to be scrapped. We showed them the problem. Installers and service personnel were being incentivized to do more jobs in a day. They were stockpiling set top boxes in their vans to eliminate extra trips to the warehouse. The JIT current inventory management system was not able to track this and no one knew where the boxes were. Supplies would run low in the warehouse, purchasing agents would reorder and then the missing boxes would show up, creating an overage that had to be scrapped. By using Apptricity’s Smartfleet inventory management solution, this cable company estimates it will save $100M in the first year alone.
