The product is a client/server system built with Java and Spring, communicating using REST/JSON web servicesThe functional/performance test and demonstration suite I created pinpointed numerous issues during development allowing the product to be shipped with a very low bug count, supporting a continuous delivery model. I also contributed successfully to backend development using Java/REST/JSON in a Spring environment as part of a scrum team.Promoted to Principal Software Engineer during this time due to the quality of my work.

Senior Software Engineer working on various aspects of the APM product line.I designed and built an integration server in Java using SOAP web services and SNMP traps to capture APM information and convert it to CA Catalyst format. CA Catalyst worked with various CA products to construct a unified view of the customer's system. The addition of support for APM increased Catalyst sales, the integration server was widely deployed and had very few bugs.I successfully added/enhanced SOAP monitoring for Weblogic, Websphere and Tomcat to the APM Java agent using complex techniques such as Java introspection, reflection and class loading, increasing sales of APM. I developed an interpreted Java like language which permitted bespoke tracers to be added without rebuilding the APM Java agent, leading to the award of a patent. This technology made field engineers more productive as previously the agent had to be rebuilt.I created a program to interpret web service WSDL and create a web page enabling the user to select web service operation, enter required parameters and invoke the web service. This greatly enhanced testing and field productivity as test programs did not have to be written and was awarded a patent.The teams I worked with were US based, so I successfully transitioned to home working, enabling me to work more effectively with colleagues in different time zones.

Subject Matter Expert in various CA products.I was chosen to join team of subject matter experts for CA Portal (Object Oriented multi-media content management system). CA Jasmine 4GL and for the CA Jasmine Object Database. The team had a worldwide remit. I created and presented training courses for both customers and CA employees and became a requested presenter across Europe and South Africa. I also developed demonstration projects for the new technologies which were used for training and sales with great success.

Team Leader with design and development responsibilities.I was selected as the team lead for new CA localisation team covering a variety of products, due to the reputation I had gained whilst running the Ingres East Asian porting team (see below).. I recruited a team with programming and East Asian language skills and the team successfully localised CA Unicenter products for East Asian markets.

Only the top third of employees were offered new roles.

Team leader East Asian language porting group for Ingres product familyAfter the CA takeover of the ASK group, I was responsible for the successful relocation of the Ingres East Asian language porting function from the Singapore office including the logistics of software/hardware move, creation of the new team and training.I established a rapport with the Singapore team even though the office was being closed, which enabled knowledge transfer to operate smoothly.I quickly created a productive new team in London to assume the responsibilities of the Singapore office, despite the steep learning curve.

Senior software engineer in team responsible for porting Ingres family of products to various UNIX variants.The Ingres products were written in C.During this time I taught myself about various UNIX variants including IBM,Solaris and Pyramid as well as becoming familiar th the Ingres product range and SQL.I was selected to visit New York as part of a group of software engineers as a reward for good performance.

Team leader TMS-15 product.The TMS-15 combined control of petrol pumps and tanks, with shop functions including credit card handling, stock control and bar code reading. Developed on UNIX with C and Pascal and cross compiled for real time OS (PSOS). I was promoted to run the TMS-15 development team whilst continuing my coding and design responsibilities.The UK team was dissolved in August 1991 and I was one of two engineers (from ten) offered relocation to the Hamburg office, where I built a new team to continue TMS-15 development.

I provided technical expert during meetings with NCR who were so impressed by my CTOS knowledge that they offered me a contract position.
