My career focus has centered on creating comprehensive, strategic marketing solutions that maximize the sales and branding success of the clients I serve. I admit to being a "big picture" guy, and that has been a huge advantage to me in shaping the future of the two major brands I have worked on in my career: Browning and Winchester. But you can't do anything alone. I love working in teams and owe nearly all of my success in advertising, product management and digital marketing to the incredibly talented people I have worked with over the years and especially those I work with today. I believe that at the core I am a salesman, and the motto for me and my teams is simply "sell stuff." I always take the long view on this. Sell stuff today, tomorrow, in five years, in fifteen and keep the company selling and succeeding for another century or two.

Director Of Marketing, Web ServicesBrowning Aug 2008 - Feb 2021Morgan, UtahOversee and manage Browning and Winchester Repeating Arms websites and direct all digital/web-related marketing activities for both brands. Included management of the web team, creation and implementation of the overall website strategy, creation of digital media campaigns, and management of all social media. I was lucky to have Brady Smith and Cody Andersen as close associates in this effort, plus an entire advertising department of extremely creative pros who support our digital efforts. A few recent accomplishments were the "migration" of our two websites to the Adobe Experience Manager platform, the creation of the Browning eStore for Browning outdoor products, and the migration of the entire print advertising team to digital marketing roles. A very fun achievement was building the Browning Facebook following from zero to 2.2 million . . . of course with a little help from John Moses Browning, if you get what I mean. -
Product Manager, Winchester Repeating Arms Co.Browning Jun 2000 - Aug 2008Morgan, UtahThe Winchester brand of firearms is part of the family of Browning brands. I worked as manager of Winchester brand firearms through the full life cycle of many products and marketing initiatives -- all of it was my responsibility. This was a great job where I interfaced and coordinated with worldwide teams: R&D, factories (in U.S., Europe and Japan), advertising and marketing, performing brand strategic planning down to pricing/margins and product specifications. I worked constantly with the sales team and customers, including Bass Pro, Cabela's and Walmart (among many others), working to deliver the right products at the right times. www.winchesterguns.comThis job was in large part about creativity. It required a constant flow of new product ideas for both the short term and for many years into the future. All coordinated with integrated marketing campaigns and always involving the web, social media and new media in general. During my time as Product Manager we sadly closed our historic factory in Connecticut and began the process of moving production worldwide. This was a long term project which is still in process today. I owe a great deal of my success over the years to those special friends who worked at the New Haven factory. I would recommend them to you in a second. Special thanks to Janon, Patty and Thierry, my friends in Japan, Portugal and Belgium, and the entire marketing, R&D and manufacturing teams for making it one of the best jobs a person like me could ever have. It was hard to move on to the next great challenge. -
Winchester Brand Advertising Manager. Browning Editor, Senior Copywriter, Lone Copywriter.Browning Dec 1983 - Aug 2000Morgan, UtahProceeded through the full progression of ad agency related work for Browning's in-house advertising department. Started as the sole copywriter for all Browning products and progressed through Senior Copywriter, Editor/Manager of the copy team and eventually full management of the Winchester firearms brand account. As Winchester Ad Manager I performed all copywriting, strategy, concept development, market research and media buying and worked as part of a copy/designer team concepting and art directing ads and literature. During this time I wrote and produced numerous sales and product introduction films, videos and commercials. These projects included work for both the Browning and Winchester brands. In 1984 I initiated the process of sending print literature copy to typesetters via BBS using a personal computer and modem. I was actively involved in the changeover from manual paste-up to digital print processes in the mid '80s. In the mid '90s I was part of the three person Browning team who proposed creating a website for Browning and Winchester Repeating Arms, which we subsequently did. The internet and digital media has been a passion for me since my first time on the web in 1993. During this time I was directly involved in locating and hiring talented people who now perform top-level marketing and advertising for key companies in the hunting and shooting industry. Being involved with good, talented people has always been one of the great joys of my life. I worked with too many talented people to mention them all, but thank you, John, Shane, Shawn, Jodi, Robert, Brent, Greg, Mike, Bill, Corey, Dave R., and all the rest of you who made every day an explosion of creative craziness.Thank you Mr. David Zeigler for taking a chance on a young, mostly unproven, aspiring copywriter. -

Working StudentVarious Jobs Aug 1976 - Dec 1980Greater Salt Lake City AreaI did various jobs while going to the U of U, which included screen printing for a billboard company, construction in Park City, Utah laying train tracks and moving old train cars during the Depot renovation, summer camp councilor for LDS Family Services, home repair, landscaping and various freelance jobs related to film and advertising. One of my best "jobs" ever was co-instructor with Randy Larson for skeet and trap shooting classes offered by University of Utah -- at Holiday Gun Club -- for three years. This was one of the best jobs I have ever had, and one you probably can't get at the University of Utah these days. Thanks Randy, for getting me involved. During my senior year I worked as the set dresser on the short film, Mr. Krueger's Christmas, starring Jimmy Stewart. Most of my work was done set dressing Willy Krueger's apartment. I also did props and continuity during filming. This little film was shot on an incredibly tight schedule so I learned a lot about getting things done under extreme pressure. I worked with many great professionals on this project who knew a great deal more about film than I did. Kieth Merrill, Tom Pratt, Michael Mclean, Roger Crandall and many more. I was clearly a minor player, although I was credited.
