He was responsible for relationship management across the Group’s insurance businesses, playing a key role in 2006 in securing a major enterprise partnership outsourcing deal worth approximately £230m over 10 years. He was also responsible, as Managing Director, for XIS, a profitable £70m turnover/550 employee business providing outsourced premium and policy processing services to Lloyd’s and the London companies market, and, during the second half of 2009, for XCS a profitable £45m turnover/330 people business providing claims adjusting and processing services for Lloyd’s.

He ran the Bank’s European retail funds transfer agency administration and software businesses, with annual turn-over of £40m and 550 employees, with approximately 40 blue chip clients, supporting approximately 25% of all UK retail fund holdings.In the first half of 2005, He was also responsible for business development and client relationship management in Scotland for and for certain other strategic relationships; during this relatively brief tenure, he secured a 10 year outsourcing contract worth £40m, with a major UK retail financial services institution.

In particular, he built knowledge capital, including promotional and training material, and played a key role in board level sales opportunities, including the initial deal for Lloyd’s and the London insurance market, which was concluded in April 2001, with a total contract value in excess of £2 billion.

He stabilised and re-directed the Old Mutual off-shore Life and Investment business, which employed approximately 70 people on the Isle of Man, with £30m of annual premium income and ca £430m of funds under management. This assignment involved the complete overhaul of every aspect of a very troubled business, which was rapidly brought under control and in due course profitably divested.

Feb 1998 - Oct 1998 UK Merger Co-ordinator, BAFS / Zurich Financial Services Reporting to Chairman, BAFS He was responsible for managing the UK merger integration of the Zurich Group and BAFS (which created the UK’s third largest insurer, employing approximately 15,000 people in the UK); also closely involved in setting strategy for the new group and in the listing process for Allied Zurich (now known as Zurich Financial Services). May 1995 - Jan 1998 Managing Director, Personal Lines, Eagle Star Insurance Reporting to Chief Executive, Eagle Star Holdings As the leader of a major division of this leading UK composite insurer, with revenues of £750m, expenses of £140m and headcount of 2,500, he drove a wide-ranging strategic programme, which embraced: a significant acquisition, substantial restructuring, new trading methods, and a major culture change and brand development initiative. He also contributed to the overall management of the Eagle Star group, as a member of the Eagle Star Holdings Management Committee (including responsibility for co-ordinating community and charity affairs). Jan 1994 - May 1995 Managing Director Operations, Threadneedle Asset Management Reporting to Chief Executive, Threadneedle Asset Management In this role he was responsible for all activities except fund management itself, including the rapid integration of the Eagle Star and Allied Dunbar asset management businesses to form Threadneedle Asset Management, which at that time had approaching £30bn of funds under management and annual operating expenses c.£30m. Jan 1990 - Dec 1993 IT Director, Eagle Star Life Assurance Company Limited Reporting to Chief Executive, Eagle Star Life He was responsible for IT matters world-wide, managing a UK team of 220 people and annual expenditure of £25m. He was also an active member of the Management Committees in the UK, France and Portugal.

He was directly responsible for 250 people and annual expenditure of £15m., and latterly also for systems matters in Marsh & McLennan Inc. world-wide outside North America and Japan.in the London insurance Market he chaired the LIBC Systems Committee and the LIMNET Technical Co-ordination Group

He worked on many assignments, principally in the banking, insurance and retail sectors, frequently in a leadership capacity.
