Health & Safety SuperintendentFreeport Cmoc Jun 2017 - Jul 2019Tenke - FungarumeAnalysed the problems with the site fire protection systems and as a result, changed their maintenance from being done by a contractor, to being done in-house. To support this I established a fire systems maintenance group within the company. The fire systems analysis was also the catalyst for the company committing to spending over US$3m on upgrading fire systems and instigating a Major Hazard Installation study by a Fire Engineer.I recruited a French professional firefighter to provide technical coaching to the site Emergency Response Team. This resulted in a big improvement in their training and the operational ability of the team.I undertook the first in-depth analysis of data from the process plant gas detector network. This provided information showing that the newly installed flue gas scrubber was not providing the levels of protection that had been anticipated at the design stage of the project.I upgraded the site's daily incident reporting and corrective actions register management systems to streamline their use and to make the information more easily accessible to users. As a result of this daily reports were available via SharePoint to the site leadership team well in advance of their daily prestart meetings - previously the information was emailed to over 250 people after the meetings had finished. Ownership of the management of corrective actions moved from being the responsibility of the Safety Department to being the responsibility of Line Management, thereby putting that accountability back onto them.
