Working as part of the Global Enterprise Architecture community I aid project acceptance in the board room through alignment with the usual strategic goals of reduced drag and capability homogeny, while at the same time working with others to envision the next generation of Pearson and help define the roadmap to it. As a technologist I work with a project team from inception to implementation, to ensure a successful local delivery for them, and a satisfactory strategic step for all of Pearson.

Pearson's program of Core Platform development includes the development of a marketing and eCommerce capability, based on Adobe AEM and Hybris. My previous experience with Hybris, eCommerce and globalisation led me to this contract position, to provide technical guidance on the architecture of the solution, solution and data model designs, and even helping develop areas of the system.

My role at HRG was to assist the business and IT design and deliver new Digital capabilities, mostly for the Homebase brand, but also with some consultancy into Homebase, Argos 4 Business, and Argos Financial Services. This covered the WebSphere estate and how that links to related capabilities such as PIM, CMS and DAM. My main remit was to assist the Homebase business to shape a Digital multichannel strategy. Following a design and realisation of the new Homebase website and mobile app this then entered into the area of CRM, Big Data analytics and customer insight.I was also involved in a number of technical proof-of-concept and emerging projects to learn and adapt to emerging technology, and learn the art of the possible. Most recently this was in the area of iBeacons and segment of one customer insight.

Following the acquisition of SSL International by Reckitt Benckiser I, with some of my colleagues, formed the Digital Solutions team, under the CIO. This team is responsible for Digital Solutions, under IS governance, to provide business and technical support for Digital Marketing operations globally.This includes management of all consumer websites, CMS operations, global ecommerce operations, and e-CRM activities. Some of these are emerging, but I provide technical oversight on these solutions, working with the business analysts and the relevant departments within RB to ensure that the solutions we put in place are technically fit for purpose, and will support RB's ambitious plans for Digital engagement over the coming years.The main initiative underpinning this strategy is a new ESB, that, via SOA services and Agile development, will ultimately support CMS, E-commerce, E-tailing, and globalisation, in a secure, cost-effective and resilient manner - a Digital Application Platform to underpin and support applications which will maximise the huge potential of RB consumer engagement on the web.

I run the Digital Development Team at SSL, responsible for the design, implementation and deployment of all web-based systems, internal and external. This means Scholl, Durex, and a whole host of locally owned brands.

I was contracted to find and resolve a number of performance issues with a complicated, dynamic JSF front end for US Academic admissions. Use of a lot of custom persistence code had led to scalability issues in the front-end design, which is where my efforts were concentrated.

Volantis' core business is mobilisation for large clients in the telco and media space. Their industry leading technology allows write-once for a web site, and then dynamically adapts that site from HTML or XDIME for any mobile device or PC. I led the Volantis Mobile Storefront team – which allows systems integrators to build mobile e-commerce sites using a JSF-based GUI. Unique Interactive are the technology arm of UBC Media Group, using Java technologies to host a variety of services for DAB Radio, including an Electronic Programme Guide. I was a senior developer on the team, and was also heabily involved in the development of the new EPG standards for XML and binary transmission of EPG data. YoStream developed a new, proprietary music streaming solution. I was part of the 3 man development team which wrote the server-side component, using a J2EE architecture. My main responsibilities were the web delivery and enablement.

Reporting directly to the CTO and the senior technical managers I provided consultation to Magically, regarding synchronization of their online collaboration suite with mobile devices

In my first year at FIT I was responsible for the synchronisation component of their application, further developing this into a viable server-side product, which later became known as Jive. Starting with the initial client product, Cont@cter, we developed server-side synchronisation for time management space. I was responsible for the architectural design of this application, and its ongoing development.In August of 2001 F.I.T. was acquired by Magically, Inc. – an internet software company based in Hong Kong, with world-wide offices. I designed and built a sync engine for them to provide SyncML support to their collaboration product. As Magically diminished their UK operations they required my services for future design and implementation of their sync server product. I improved and extended the server to meet the needs of their trial clients.

At Nortel I re-engineered and re-implemented the outdated controller for a microwave demodulation board for Nortel’s Fixed Wireless Access product, lead a team of four people to produce the software for the controller, the three DSPs on the board, and the test software.
