Founded New England PharmAssociates, LLC to provide advisory and operational services for Biota's newly acquired portfolio programs derived from MaxThera (Beverly, MA) and Prolysis (Oxford, UK). Operated a laboratory facility in Beverly, MA intended to gradually transition acquired assets into the Biota R&D portfolio.

Founded MaxThera with an exclusive license to the drug discovery portfolio from Genome Therapeutics Corporation. The goal: to develop new treatments for bacterial infections - especially for infections caused by bacteria that have become resistant to current drugs. Wrote grants (NIH NIAID and Project BioShield) to raise US $3 million in non-dilutive funds. Designed and implemented a highly capital efficient, semi-virtual operating model that enabled substantial R&D progress with minimal capital investment.Responsibility for chemistry strategy and R&D operations - oversight of hiring, identification and management of outsourced R&D vendors, and led business development activities.Successfully exited company in early 2010 with sale of assets to Biota Holdings Limited, of Melbourne Australia.

Leader of the multi-disciplinary internal R&D effort and alliance manager for the strategic partnership with GlaxoWellcome (Madrid, Spain) resulting in the identification of Omadacycline (formerly PTK-0796) and Sarecycline, two novel tetracycline antibiotics. Planned and executed the semi-virtual IND-enabling early development program for omadacycline, coordinating efforts of internal experts, consultants and international partners to complete GLP toxicology, CMP scale-up, formulation development and phase 1 plan. Omadacycline and Sarecycline were approved by the FDA in 2018. The Paratek Pharmaceuticals drug discovery team, responsible for the inventions of Omadacycline and Sarecycline, were recognized with the American Chemical Society's "Heroes of Chemistry" award in 2019, at the ACS National Meeting in San Diego.
