About Roger Holsinger

After spending 20-plus years in journalism, I changed gears and careers in June 2013 and began teaching high school language arts.
In August of 2013 I began teaching at both Bayard and Minatare Public Schools as a Language Arts instructor.
After my first year I chose to work at just one school and accepted an offer from Minatare to go full time for the school district for the 2014-2015 school year. I will continue to teach English, speech and theatre, but will add journalism, American literature, coach the One Act Play Production and speech.
In December of 2014 I completed the University of Nebraska-Kearney Transition to Teaching program and earned a Master’s in Education in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am enjoying the change and it's nice to have a job where you are appreciated. There are challenges, as with any change, but it's worth it knowing that my skills might have a positive impact on a young person's life.
On the side, I operated my photography business, Holsinger Photography, until 2016. In the summer of 2016 we relocated to Grand Island, Nebraska and left Scottsbluff; a place we called home for about 15 years. Chloe, my youngest, graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in May of 2022 and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln for a year and will attend UNL in the fall of 2024. I have two other older children; Claire, who lives in Greeley, Colorado and Andrew, who has spent the last theee years teaching English in Seoul, South Korea. After six years of teaching at Grand Island, I accepted a position at West Point Beemer Public Schools where I taught two sections of sophomore speech, two sections of junior English (American Literature), a 7th grade speech exploratory class and a dual credit speech class through Wayne State College. In April I accepted a seventh grade teaching position with Lincoln Public Schools at Goodrich Middle School.

I left the position because the publisher told me that my wife's work as a stringer for the Star-Herald was a conflict and that either she quit or I would be fired so I quit. I returned to the paper in 1998 as the sports editor and then in 1999 the Sidney Telegraph was purchased by the owner of the Sun and the two papers merged to form the Sun-Telegraph.
