I enjoyed a lot freedom at the NBC, independently identifying and assessing new project opportunities, conducting competitive analyses, training staff member, working with patent agents, and developing key relationships across the organization to build interest and drive partnerships. I was also responsible for supporting decision makers on key partnership contracts; I worked upstream with business lines to determine project priorities, educated the Contract group, and participated in calls with bank and partner negotiators to help close deals. Moreover, I established the Innovation IP group partnering with innovators (AI, Data); over 2 years, I have reviewed 150+ innovation projects, filed IP on 17 of them, and delivered 20 presentations.▪ Drafted a 25-page contract template addressing the sticking points of prior negotiations, substantially facilitating the process.▪ Introduced a program to provide market and technology assessments to increase visibility on innovation opportunities.▪ Gained freedom to manage legal risk assessment and assembled groups to discuss competitor patents and make decisions.▪ Developed a multi-quarter plan, budget, employee training program, processes, KPIs, documents, and management reports.▪ Attended an AI online conference and provided key support and training to more junior staff, across various groups.

As part of my last role at UBC, I negotiated long-term commercial and partnership contracts with large global companies of the Health and IT sectors, leveraging interpersonal skills to influence executives and reach agreements despite complex, competing priorities. I was able to drive strong business development from start to finish with local, Canadian, and international companies by liaising with industry stakeholders to identify needs, managing multi-year commercialization projects, and completing $7M+ deals representing over 100 licenses. I also contributed to startups in Mining, IT, and Industrial Hardware, including a deal valued at$65M; I conducted due diligence, pitched to investors, and led lengthy, complex negotiations. Another noteworthy achievement was the production of one of the most detailed study reports in North America, for which I analyzed 30+ years of data to develop insights on revenue and profitability for each sector and deliver recommendations for future business development and investment.▪ Promoted UBC capabilities to world-renowned industry partners and organizations, notably via presentations and networking.▪ Coordinated technical teams from both UBC and partner companies to develop the agreed upon products and services.▪ Managed mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science technology; trained and mentored staff.▪ Assisted in building startups, wrote business plans, and conducted financial analysis of contracts and unit performance.▪ Chaired quarterly internal review, including reporting, identifying benchmarks and success indicators, and initiating changes.▪ Organized and chaired a panel for UBC’s inventors to pitch technologies to entrepreneurs, receive advice on how to launch startups, and develop partnerships.
