Product Owner
Space Tech Manager
Topic Products is a startup. It has developed an ecosystem for accelerating develop¬ment of embedded systems using FPGA’s. The product portfolio consists of Dyplo (an FPGA IP-core) and System on Modules based on Xilinx’ Zynq & UltraScale+ techno¬logy. One of the unique and core aspects of Dyplo is the support and the ease of use for partial dynamic reprogramming of the FPGA.My role was to make Dyplo suitable for use in space applications. To accomplish this I have defined an architecture roadmap, written proposals for the European Space Agency and successfully executed this project together with a small engineering team. In addition I visited ESA conferences, fairs and potential customers in order to pro¬mote Dyplo and collect feedback that influenced the roadmap. As a system architect I was also involved in a project for ProRail (Dutch railroads). ProRail wanted to replace an old analog track relay with a modern electronic track relay. Such a relay can detect modern light weight trains more reliably and enables monitoring the rail’s condition. This project was done together with Movares which was responsible for the detection algorithm. My role was to guide the engineering team in creating a prototype for both the electronics and software. At the same time I have been defining the functional safety architecture and requirements of the final system. In this job I was appreciated for my communication skills. The customer appreciated the clarity with which I explained technical issues while the engineers liked the way I helped them solve problems by keeping an eye on the actual goal and not on the chosen path.
Head Of Software
Mutracx is a startup and spin-off of Océ and has developed the Lunaris printer, which is a disrup¬tive technology for printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing. The Lunaris is a complex machine using advanced motion control concepts, 60 print heads and an advanced 8 giga pixel scanner to calibrate, reliably print and verify etch resist patterns on inner layer copper sheets.I was involved in the development of the Lunaris from the beginning, at a time that the complete multidisciplinary Mutracx team consisted of 15 people. As the software architect I worked closely with the mechanical, electrical, optical and mechatronics engineers and architects to define the system and software require¬ments. I was responsible for the software architecture, testing, integration and release planning and was main technical contact for the outsourcing of a number of components. In 2011, I became ‘Head of software’ at Mutracx and got additional responsibilities for the management of the software team and tooling. This implied defining team member profiles and recruitment, doing appraisals, up and downsizing of the software team and selecting and managing license for tools used by the software team and end customer. My major achievements were the successful regular delivery of new software releases for the machine in an environment with ever changing priorities. I successfully managed the required up and downsizing of the software team and the migration to new development tooling and Linux releases. My major technical achievements were the architecting of the complex data image processing path from the customer’s CAD image to the firing of the print head nozzles, the architecting of the overall machine.
