One of the biggest risks our families face is the increasing number of floods, heatwaves, droughts and price spikes caused by climate change and our reliance on fossil fuels. Round Our Way makes sure the voices and concerns of people affected by these events, who are too often overlooked by the news debate, get heard.Round Our Way is a new organisation with ambitious goals and a strong focus on creativity and innovation. We are generating a drumbeat of stories about the impacts of climate change on our neighbourhoods, towns and villages, and the incredible local people quietly doing something about it. Communities are often doing their bit; we’re here to tell the government and companies to meet us halfway. Round Our Way brings attention to stories of how people, often already struggling with the rising cost of living, are impacted by climate change. In some cases this will be in a direct, even sudden, way such as seeing their home flood or older relatives hospitalised by a heatwave. In other instances, people feel the subtle but draining impact of extreme weather causing spikes in food prices.

It does it through programmes to support a diverse new generation of young working class leaders, helping them campaign for change, and working with organisations who want to be inclusive of working class talent.

An associate role developing, promoting and fundraising for NatCen's work on understanding public attitudes and showing how these insights can drive better campaigns. This included helping to deliver and present the flagship annual British Social Attitudes Survey.

• Led a division of 80+ staff in teams covering campaigns, research, policy, public affairs, media, brand, marketing, internal comms, creative, digital and digital advice.• Represented Shelter on all major national news outlets and gave evidence to parliamentary committees multiple times. Regular conference speaker and commentator. • Helped to create the conditions for creative and innovative new approaches to communications which won several industry awards. • Designed and led a pioneering campaign using advanced audience targeting and highly innovative comms to make housing a top issue at the 2015 election, the issue having been absent from the 2010 race. The campaign was cited by Third Sector magazine’s award judges in their decision to shortlist Shelter for Britain’s Most Admired Charity of 2015. • Successfully campaigned to secure legal bans on letting agent fees and retaliatory, or 'Revenge' evictions, which now protects millions of tenants. • The team, together with partners, won 2nd place and £50,000 in the Wolfson Economics Prize for a proposal to build an innovative new garden city.• Won a number of changes to welfare reforms, but more importantly started a programme of work to understand why public trust in the system is low and pilot innovative and integrated new approaches to campaigning, communications and policy work to turn this around.• Secured Board approval for major investment in a digital transformation programme that has delivered increased supporter recruitment and more tailored digital services. Additionally, overseen the creation of the organisation’s first-ever services outcomes framework.

• Managed a team of 20+ and responsible for the organisation's overall campaigning strategy• Led and developed teams nominated for Charity Times Campaigning Charity of Year 2012 and PR Week Public Affairs Campaign of 2012 and 2011.• Worked closely with fundraising colleagues to secure or develop award-winning corporate partnerships, such as Shelter/KPMG, Highly Commended for Corporate National Partnership Champion, Charity Awards 2014.

• An interim role managing a team of 7, transitioning them from being a more reactive function to one that was better able to shape the policy agenda.

• A role spanning corporate influencing strategy, leading policy and research work and grant programmes and acting as a media spokesperson for the organisation. • Developed a series of innovative local government pilots, working with the Department for Work and Pensions and a leading financial services firm, which improved older low income people’s access to care funding, subsequently taken up by other local authorities.• Helped to shift the organisation away from a Whitehall-centric influencing model to one more actively engaged with political and media routes to change.
