I am presently working for BD, a global medical product manufacturer, but have a background in Agrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Diagnostics and Engineering, including a variety of roles such as Research, Process Development, New Product Introduction, Operations Management, Sales & Marketing and Executive Management. I have a degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Portsmouth and a PhD in Textiles and Dyestuff Chemistry from UMIST, where I was developing novel water repellency processes as part of an MOD project into 21st Century army clothing. Throughout my career I have always tried to help others achieve their goals, by inspiring, mentoring and coaching them, and as a STEM Ambassador I can now inspire and support a wider range of people to achieve their goals too.

Hardware Engineering ManagerI lead a team of mechanical and electrical engineers providing engineering support for a range of syringe and peristaltic pumps, used for medication management in hospitals, ambulances and other healthcare settings (Alaris and Bodyguard). The team mainly focus on sustaining projects with third-party manufacturers, in order to ensure the ongoing supply of pumps to the marketplace by the effective management of supply chain changes for electrical and mechanical components, including obsolescence. Under my management, the team have recently implemented a predictive end-of-life process to effectively manage BD owned mould and cast tooling, extruders, assembly aides/jigs/rigs, test equipment and holding fixtures, to significantly reduce the risk of failure of process critical equipment, which could lead to unplanned line stops, whilst effectively budgeting CAPEX spend to replace equipment approaching expected end-of-life. Project ManagerI am leading a project to outsource the manufacture and management of spares and accessories for the Bodyguard range of pumps to suitably qualified third party manufacturers, to optimise supply chains and lower manufacturing costs. I improved customer relationships by being honest about the issues facing the business and highlighting the strategies being put in place to improve the customer experience moving forward. Highlights▶ I built a high performing production team to keep track with rapidly increasing sales demands, resulting in the doubling of consumables production output year on year and hitting over one million units by 2012.▶ Under my leadership, production output yielded an Increase in company turnover from zero to £3.1m between 2008 and 2013.▶ I created and maintained an ERP system to plan production, map resource utilisation, track stocks of raw materials, control costs, manage the inventory of finished products and ensure full product traceability.▶ I undertook an on-site review of a key supplier in China after quality issues were identified with moulded components. The latter role included managing approved change requests through to implementation. This frequently required customer interaction, as no changes could be made to their product manufacturing processes without their approval. Maintaining such positive relationships was critical to building trust with customers and this led to more open and effective business relationships.
