I was part of various component development and improvement task forces, including high-speed modulator and laser development efforts. I initiated and proved the feasibility of the first 10Gbits/sec Si ring modulator which was subsequently successfully prototyped. I have tested, characterized and modeled high-speed silicon devices and various III-V lasers and gain chips for development purposes and application in external cavity lasers. I have researched Raman based Si lasers and highly doped Si PiN-junctions for light emission. I am familiar with and have extensively used the concepts of DOEs/DORs for new device development and improvement, as well as the concept of statistical data analysis and software for device measurements. I have extensive hands-on lab and prototyping experience. In the CAD design area, I was overall layout integrator for multiple SOI tape-outs, and have implemented and managed a wafer-scale test-scheduling database. I identified, evaluated and recommended software solutions for optical device simulation and have developed various in-house software, among which a photonics development kit for layout integration of Cadence with Matlab, and software for an intuitive visual k-space representation of the EM-field emitted by photonic devices. I have developed software in Visual Basic for test and measurement purposes. I worked on various optical modulator related patents.

I modeled the thermal behavior of the laser and developed a packaging method to reduce the temperature drift in the optical laser oscillation frequency to less than +/-5GHz over 60 degrees. A full development-to-production cycle was completed and the resulting laser product was sampled to customers. I was the main contributor to the patent issued for this new type of fiber laser.
