As an intern in the Transportation Facilities Group at Parsons New York office, Roger gained an immense amount of knowledge and had the chance to practice his already developing technical skills in the structural engineering field. By working on several different transit projects across the Northeast and throughout the city of New York, Roger was able to learn extensively about many different points in a project's life and to assist professional engineers in these processes. Working with mulitple types of software, including Revit, MathCAD, and BlueBeam Revu, while also utilizing multiple codes, including ASCE 7-16, ACI 318-14, AISC Steel Construction Manual 15th Edition, and IBC 2018, he was able to delve into performing calculations, develop an understanding for different drawings types, and model these designs. Some of the projects Roger participated in involved concrete design, steel connection design, framework analysis, and different types of loading, including snow, wind, and ice. In addition, he coordinated with architectural and structural drawings and organized historical files for developing use. During his time spent at Parsons, Roger was also able to continue the growth of previously learned skills, including time management, professional communication, and teamwork.

As Project Manager for the 2022 Travel Team, Roger utilized his leadership skills to organize, plan, and lead a group of 9 students from Penn State, CU Boulder, and the University of Virginia throughout the year in designing a pedestrian footbridge using AUTOCAD that eventually would be constructed by hand in eSwatini, South Africa. Throughout the year, the team and Roger had to meet certain deadlines and create professional reports that displayed the design, costs, and community analyses of the future bridge. Eventually, the team organized logistics involved with traveling and spent 6 weeks building the bridge alongside the community of Mahlangatsha, who now can cross dangerous floodwaters to easily access markets, healthcare, and education. Working with professional engineers, Roger gained valuable experience in communicating and operating leadership in a team setting, international and foreign affairs in the engineering world, and structural design.
