Working as a freelance consultant with Sidewalk Labs to help design and evaluate different low-temperature thermal network technologies for climate positive communities.

Researched the potential for Low Temperature Thermal Networks as a low carbon emission solution for integrated community energy systems. Throughout the two year period, responsible for working with over 20 industry partners that included municipal governments, engineering firms, and energy utilities to develop best practices for these systems and to design numerous pilot projects throughout southern Ontario.

Assisted with the design and development of an energy recovery system for commercial kitchen operations. Throughout the three research terms supported the research team by carrying out a series of self lead projects that focused on prototyping, cad modelling, detailed design work, and end project research. In the final term, worked with a group of external engineering consultants to design a three million dollar sustainable energy systems laboratory that would allow for a years of flexibility when testing and evaluating different sustainable systems with a live building load.

Context: Large scale Student Society with an operating budget of $700,000 and over 200 active members responsible for representing over 6000 undergraduate students. Responsibilities: Managed a team of fifty students to successfully execute over $200,000 worth of programing ranging from graduation formals (600 participants), peer tutoring programs (300 participants), and first year welcome week (1200 participants). Organized a student referendum to allocate upwards of $150,000 of funding. Hosted six town hall style consultations with the public and created a referendum that engaged more than 30% of the 6000 person student base. Revitalized relationships between the engineering student body and the university administrative to successfully negotiated terms for reinstating $60,000 of welcome week programing into the Society’s event portfolio.

Responsibilities:Attended five conferences throughout the school year to represent the concerns of the 6000 McMaster Engineering students at both the Provincial and Federal level Organized and lead multiple delegations of students on cross country excursions for these conferences. Responsible for student safety and delegation finances for each of these trips. Created the McMaster Engineering Societies first Professional Development Conference to teach and mentor students on the practical lessons learned from these external conferences. The single day conference had over 100 participants and has grown in size and scale since its inaugural year.

By planning a week long curriculum on a variety of topics ranging from biology to physics, Venture Camp Instructors teach elementary school students about the opportunities within science and engineering.
