Since 1986, I have filed for or with my clients more than 8,000 FOIA and Wob/Woo requests. Lecturing on freedom of information I did at journalism schools, universities, in company and in own free registration courses, for students in or from a dozen countries.In 2022 I terminated almost all my lecturing as a part of my pre-retirement.

Started as an extension to the freedom of information courses on colleges I lectured on investigative journalism too, in colleges and in company.In 2014 I terminated most of my investigative journalism related work, in order to concentrate my focus almost completely on freedom of information.

Initially I started my work as an intelligence researcher. In 1986 I founded my own office and started to use the Dutch FOIA, Wob, in my intel research. Since the mid nineties of the last century filing FOIA/Wob requests for or with my clients on all kinds of topics is my main activity.In 2014 I terminated most of my intel work, in order to concentrate my focus on freedom of information. The only intel work I still do is transparency or constitutional state related.

Fringe was not a regular magazine. It was a research tool and a bit fringy, I hope. Goals were, trying to publish news in early stages, before the news is established.Articles were not always selected for their content but mainly for the facts or trends within them. One of the consequences was that Fringe does not discriminate between information and dis- information.The intelligence news was gathered in established media and outlets beyond the mainstream. The focus was on forensic and operational information; not on bureaucracy, politics and the formal/legal aspects. The section ‘old intelligence news’ was mainly based on recently via RTI/FOIA/Wob-requests disclosed intelligence docs.The right to information news focused on test cases, jurisprudence, litigation, tools and trends for right to information specialists, investigative journalists and other researchers.The journal had 3,000+ subscribers in 100+ countries: 50% intelligence specialists, 30% press, 20% FOIA/Wob specialists.On Linked In I manage three groups:- FOIA Specialists [FOIAs worldwide], 2,800+ members- Wob Specialists [on the Dutch FOIA: the Woo], 650+ members - Dutch Intelligence Specialists, 250+ members

This foundation [VVV] filed on behalf of its 400 members FOIA-requests in order to get access for each member in his/her own intelligence files. After hundreds of court battles, including in the European High Court in Strasbourg, we won. As a result Dutch laws had to be revised and now everybody has a right of access to his/her own intelligence files, that is: to those docs that are older than 5 year.A second result is that a representative random sample of old intelligence files will stay in archives in order to facilitate research.

In several positions in the peace movement I resarched on topics like NATO deployments, cruise missiles and the activities of intelligence services.
