I’m originally from a small town in The Netherlands called Hoorn. I studied hotel management in Amsterdam, where I lived for 12 years before I journeyed to the Middle East in 2009. While I loved the hospitality business, my passion for photography burned stronger each year, ignited by travels to far off places. I fell in love with spaces, places and faces through the lens of my camera and soon I was itching to make it a full time pursuit. In recent years, my work as a hotelier has given me the opportunity to direct and participate in photo shoots with renowned photographers both behind the scenes and behind the camera. Hotels are great practice grounds for photography as they are microcosms of society – people, architecture, art, food, fashion, the subject matter is endless.So why the name HONEST? The single thread that seems to link most of my photos and one that is often mentioned by my lovely group of encouraging friends and colleagues is that my images always seem pure, direct and HONEST. Truly soulful photography needs little staging, just gut instinct and an absolute love for the subject.Most HONEST of all is finally being honest with myself, after nearly 17 years as a hotelier : It’s a great career, but time to follow my passion, take a leap of faith and let the camera take me where it will go. The Domain Bahrain is an innovative “hotel-club concept” designed to offer a socially charged members club with the added benefit of hotel rooms. This 36-story, 131-key property in Manama’s Diplomatic District focuses on sociability, entertainment and technology.Modernist and social, The Domain’s slogan “Stay Work Play” represents the blur between business and leisure in the guests’ lives. The emphasis on social spaces is highlighted by the quirky, reverse-mix of the hotel-club’s dining and entertainment outlets outweighing the rooms and suites offering. Other facilities at The Domain Bahrain include Vie Spa and Vie Fitness, 375m² of meeting space and nine restaurants and lounges including Txoko, a Basque sky lounge; grill room Le Sauvage, Uniquely South of France at Le Domain [34], as well as an exciting Japanese restaurant, lounge and bar called Imari on the 35th floor.
