As an Instructor (Senior Research Scientist) at Baylor College of Medicine, I have dedicated more than a decade to studying the brain mechanisms of sleep and memory. My passion for this field has driven me to obtain a PhD in Neuroscience from the Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria and an M.Sc. in Neuroscience from Bonn University in Germany. Currently, I am focusing my research on the cortico-thalamocortical network, which plays a vital role in maintaining deep stages of sleep and preventing cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. To achieve this, I use cutting-edge chemogenetics, EEG, confocal microscopy, and MATLAB & Python-based signal processing to manipulate and monitor this network in rodents, as well as translational studies in human specimens. As a highly collaborative researcher, I engage in several collaborations across the institutes in the United States. I also mentor graduate and undergraduate students and present my work at national and international conferences, as I believe that effective communication of research findings is critical to advancing the field. My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between scientific discoveries and clinical outcomes and make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of neurology and psychiatry. Above all, I strive to approach my work with compassion and empathy, recognizing the importance of understanding the human experience and the impact that my research can have on individuals and society as a whole.

InstructorBaylor College Of Medicine Jul 2019 - PresentHouston, Texas- At Memory and Brain Research Center, I am studying one of the neuronal networks, namely cortico-thalamocortical network involved in maintaining deep stages of sleep (slow wave sleep) in humans and rodents. It is crucial to understand how this network dysfunction plays as a common denominator to sleep disturbances and downstream symptoms including, memory impairment, cognitive decline and accumulation of Aβ plaques. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherBaylor College Of Medicine Jul 2016 - Jun 2019Houston, Texas Area- Using chemogenetic techniques and EEG method, manipulating thalamocortical circuitry in Alzheimer's disease mouse model.- Investigated human brain tissues for related network dysfunctions. - Awarded with project grant by Ruth K Broad Foundation.- Strategic planing and execution of clinical/pharmacological level drug testing.- Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.- Review article titled "Corticothalamic network dysfunction and Alzheimer's disease" Jagirdar & Chin, 2017. -

Phd Project In NeuroscienceMedizinische Universitaet Innsbruck Jan 2012 - Oct 2015Innsbruck- I was engaged in multiple projects and focused on understanding best scientificand medical information in epigenetics of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).- Focus of the project was on understanding the role of histone deacetylase enzymes in terms of therapeutic significance in TLE.- Key aspects of epilepsy and pathophysiological changes were studied, anddrug-resistant features were investigated.- Publications:Jagirdar et. al, (2015), Expression of class II histone deacetylases in twomouse models of temporal lobe epilepsy; Journal of Neurochemistry.Jagirdar et.al, (2015), Rapid changes in expression of class I and IV histonedeacetylases during epileptogenesis in mouse models of temporal lobeepilepsy, Experimental Neurology. -
