I worked as a Non registrar post graduate in Community health and development (CHAD) hospital, Christian Medical College, Vellore.CHAD has its own Training Center and outpatient clinic and 180-bed secondary-care hospital. CHAD is the epicenter of CMC‘s community health program, providing related training to the medical, nursing and paramedical students, postgraduates and CMC staff. CHAD serves 82 rural communities of the Kaniyambadi block, as well as 120 tribal hamlets with traveling bus or van-delivered care, very similar to Dr. Ida’s roadside clinics. Over one million people live in this catchment area, making the daily balance between training and service challenging.During this period i worked in the Labour room, Operation theatre, Nursery, In patient wards, casualty and out patient department. I had an opportunity to work for Biocon Foundation as a program project manager over looking their primary health care programs, which catered to the beneficiaries of “Arogya Raksha Yojana”, a health insurance scheme for the unorganized sector in collaboration with Dr. Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudalaya. Activities i was involved in: *Managed all the clinics and its human recourses and material supply chain *Co-develop and testing of a HMIS software for all the clinics*In charge of the branding and publicity of the clinics and its services, *Trained the community health workers in the basics of mother and child health, communicable and non communicable infections, sanitation and hygieneOrganized health camps in the rural clinics *Developed health education material for all the community health workers. *I was involved in the foundations medical relief activities for flood affected areas in North Karnataka during that period. I volunteered as a resident medical officer in Samaritan Medical Aid and Research Trust (SMART) Tribal Health Centre, a tribal hospital located in a forest reserve 30 kms from Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district, TamilNadu The hospital has 20 beds but can accommodate up to 40 patients during surgical camps. During this period he was working with a Pediatric surgeon looking after the Outpatient and in patient departments and organizing free surgical camps. He also was involved in teaching tribal volunteers of the hospital about mother and child health and procedures like normal vaginal delivery and patient care as there was no nurses or allied staff in this hospital.
