A distinctive aspect of the Curtin University Software Engineering course is the year-long group based (4 engineers) capstone project, with an industry partner (Motorola). An exciting new product was created, with the final result delivered on time, while exceeding the customers expectations (requirements identified as ‘wish-list’, and not expected to be delivered in the available time frame, were included). We were left to learn from our own mistakes, and use metrics collected over each cycle to track progress and improve the processes used. This experience perfectly prepared me for employment, allowing me to efficiently contribute to both the development and management aspects of my projects from day one.• Focus on delivering a quality product on-schedule, on-budget and on-scope. • Object-Oriented design in UML, primarily implemented in Java.• Analyzed customer specification to elicit requirements as core, desirable and wish-list.• Product implemented with the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern, allowing integration with existing open-source software, resulting in stretch goals being reached.
