I serve as the corporate officer at SETTY—a Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Design Firm headquartered in the District of Columbia and with 9 additional regional offices across the U.S.— responsible for managing financial risks, the People & Culture unit, and the administration of the information technology ecosystem for the company, and business development.As an owner/officer of the company, my responsibilities include financial stewardship and strategic and business leadership with direct responsibility and oversight of business operations. This work entails setting priorities, focusing energy and resources, strengthening operations, ensuring that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals, establishing agreement around intended outcomes/results, and assessing and adjusting the organization's direction. And I read a lot of contracts. Additionally, I continue to write and conduct research on teachers’ learning and the practices of teaching. I have taught in Virginia, Japan, and New Zealand as a secondary school teacher and have worked with in-service and pre-service teachers across Michigan and in India over the last 15 years. I was a Fulbright Fellow in India where I designed and developed professional learning environments for government schoolteachers as part of my continuing research agenda. Finally, I am a board member of several non-profits in the U.S. and in India and hope to continue to contribute as much as I have gained from all of these experiences.
