Profile bio

About Rohit Mangla, Phd

Currently, I am engaged as Research Scientist at Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing at National University of Singapore. My area of interest is remote sensing of cloud and precipitation, microwave remote sensing, data assimilation in meteorology, radiative transfer modelling, cloud-aerosol-precipitation interaction and machine learning. At CRISP, i am working on retrieval of volcanic ash properties using satellite remote sensing and numerical models.Previously, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the observation team of data assimilation group (GMAP) at Meteo-France, Toulouse, France, where i worked on the upgradation of space radar module in RTTOV-SCATT model, a well known fast forward operator for data assimilation at national meteorological agencies. My contribution on bright band simulations is adapted in RTTOV v13.2 (release in November 2022). During my PhD at IIT Bombay, we have developed a new methodology in colloboration with Meteo-France to account weather model bias in the context of all-sky assimilation of microwave observations. I also worked on vertical structure of cloud and indirect effect of aerosols on convective precipitation. I have published 5 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and attended several national and international conferences.I am also recipient of Raman-Charpak fellowship-2018, awarded by the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research. I am active reviewer of peer-reviewed journals like Journal of Hydrometeorology, Remote Sensing (MDPI) and Geocarto International.

Listed skills include Matlab, C, Microsoft Excel, Programming, and 6 others.
