Women working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers represent a mere 20 per cent of the current job force in the field. In India, for every female engineer, there are three male engineers. However, progress is being made- over the last 20 years, women’s enrollment in technical institutions has increased from 5% to 45%. We at CodeFemme wish to contribute to this progress. CodeFemme is an organization started by a group of students passionate about technology and women empowerment, and who wish to provide a platform for schoolgirls to learn about coding and gain a competitive edge. The crux of the issue is that women are still victims of outdated stereotypes, and we at CodeFemme wish to help in reducing this stigma by enabling young girls to unlock their potential and let their talent shine.
