I've been working on projects that are leveraging technologies like WordPress and Codeigniter, integrating Stripe for payment processing, user login and account management workflows, reporting, and financial reconciliation tools.I've also contributed to open source projects that I've leveraged, and have provided the best technical guidance to my clients that I possibly could. Software Engineer - Project OctaneWp Engine Aug 2015 - Oct 2018Austin, Texas, UsI worked on our Project Octane team. Until recently, this has been a team of one (that's right, just me!), but we've grown to a team of 3 devs, one project manager, one designer, and a dedicated manager since the project's inception. The purpose of Project Octane is to ensure that WP Engine's world class support team (https://twitter.com/WPEsupport) has all the tools they need to do their job as effectively and efficiently as possible, which was so successful, our responsibilities grew to include our sales ops team.We developed the software to push configurations to customer's sites all the way down to reporting and other useful tool sets like mass customer notifications (regularly used to send 100k+ emails in one run). My personal mission was to slay any and all monotonous work so my colleagues could focus on the parts of their jobs that they love and make them successful. One of the last responsibilities I had before leaving was to create the data model in Salesforce that we would use to expand our sales team's insight into our customers. To date, I've been responsible for the following:-Primary dev of a 200k+ line (according to cloc - only counting lines of code) repository for our support team over the last 3 years with 42,579 lines added and 36,708 lines removed as of 08/20/2017-Second largest maintainer over the last 5 years of our platform code base (over 270k lines of code - again, according to cloc, only counting lines of code) with 85,580 lines added and 26,233 removed as of 04/24/2017-Author and primary maintainer of our Salesforce and Zendesk integrationsAPI's I've had experience integrating with:-Salesforce-Zendesk-Hubspot-Amazon-NetDNA-Hipchat-JIRA-GithubIn Q3 of 2015, while in this role I received my second "WP Engine SUPERCHARGED Award" -- as of Oct. 2018, I was the only employee of over 600 to do so. -
Junior Developer - Core Services TeamWp Engine Nov 2014 - Aug 2015Austin, Texas, UsDuring my time on the Core Services team, we turned our focus on to larger projects that would greatly enable and impact the company. One of those tasks was to shift our entire data model of how we understood our customers to a completely different model - without causing any downtime to services provided to the customer, or their sites. Through great technical leadership on our team -- whom I learned so much from -- we were able to deliver on the promise with minimal casualties.Another project I was ecstatic to be a part of was our internal WordPress performance diagnostic tool. Though it's since been deprecated, it could accurately diagnose an under-performing WP install in a matter of a few minutes or less, and deliver the results in a human readable format that techs could almost copy/paste to customers in support tickets. I was responsible for many of the diagnostics that we used after I had published our top performing ebooks of 2015 "Scaling WordPress for High Traffic".To say the least, WordPress performance is a passion of mine, but so was helping my fellow Jr. Devs level up. I led a group called "The Jr. Devs" to create content on a weekly basis on design patterns, testing strategies, and other CS concepts and code problems like heuristics, machine learning, and sorting algorithms. We scaled learning by teaching each other. It was a huge success that continues through today. -
Junior Dev - Business Systems TeamWp Engine Jul 2013 - Nov 2014Austin, Texas, UsThe Business Systems Team set out to specifically serve the WP Engine internal departments with a large focus on signups, support, and finance. We handled everything from building out reports so teams could easily access the data they needed, to integrations with 3rd party vendors, and additional support tools to serve our customers. I was also primarily responsible for our signup page when it was still a WordPress site.During my time on this team, I specifically built business critical systems like our account synchronization tool which would process accounts and ensure they were up to date with all relevant information from all authoritative data sources. Some of those sources include our billing system, Salesforce, Hubspot, and our user portal.Another large role I played during this time was building features for our support team to ensure they could provide the best darn support to our customers. After coming from support, this work really had my heart. In the third quarter of 2013, while in this role, I was one of the 4 first recipients of WP Engine's highest awards called the "WP Engine SUPERCHARGED Award". -
Junior Developer - Engineering TeamWp Engine Mar 2013 - Jul 2013Austin, Texas, UsWhile learning the platform at WP Engine, I was given many important tasks to carry out. A few of them include:-Creating an account auditing system that automated closing non-payment accounts-Assisted with platform maintenance-Debugged issues when they arose (including issues that worked their way to production! Yikes!)During this time, I was on a team of 5 engineers total (including our founder Jason Cohen) in a fast paced environment while still learning the ropes of the business.I absolutely loved the work we accomplished while also under the leadership of an unofficial mentor. Code reviews were mandatory for all code that was deployed even then, which was a craft competency accelerator for me.I was also part of our first "Culture Club" and essentially built a meme generator for our company holiday parties. It was a hit. -
Support TechWp Engine Jul 2012 - Mar 2013Austin, Texas, UsI walked into this role as a WP Developer, enabling me to provide technical support for WP Engine customers for their WordPress websites. This included troubleshooting issues such as:-Site Performance-Configurations-Maintenance-Debugging Plugins-Questions and advice on all the WPI excelled at this role being a former freelance WP web dev and prided myself on my ability to pull customers out of tight spots and serve them to the WP Engine customer support standard and beyond.During this time I also took on additional tasks to quickly move into a development role at WP Engine. I also created an internal group called "FFN" to help fellow dev enthusiasts to level up their code craft. -
