I oversee the customs operations for AFI's Melbourne branch. During my time with AFI, I have implemented modern Customs Compliance procedures and created a client classification database. I enjoy providing my clients with exceptional customer service and whilst AFI is a boutique company, I pride myself on being able to service our large wholesale clients with logistical solutions which meet their needs as required.

It is truly heartbreaking how much poverty there is around the World and I realise how very fortunate we are to live in Australia. In January 2016 my Wife and I departed Australia and embarked on an incredible journey abroad to pursue our passion for travelling and our passion for helping others. During our 18-month journey we were able to visit so many places and learn about many amazingly different cultures! On our journey we provided assistance to Charities and NGO’s by volunteering our time, providing technical & physical assistance as well as raising funds to support the causes that we were involved with. I volunteered in places such as Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia & Thailand. My role as a Licensed Customs Broker with Damco Maersk Group involved day to day preparation and lodgement of customs declarations, maintaining corporate KPI expectations and providing great support to the customs manager and team. I was directly involved in continuous improvement of the department, including the implementation of a new customs computer system, database review and assessment of complicated classifications.

I worked with Qube as a Licensed Customs Broker and this role provided me with a higher level of Customs broker training. This role allowed me to expand my knowledge even further including involvement in complicated Bulk, Steel, Gas and Oil Importers and associated equipment providers. I also worked alongside physical wharf operations. Qube management allowed me to run the operations of the customs department autonomously, including supporting and training the cartage co-ordinator and customs clerk. I was responsible for providing comprehensive reporting and detailed quotations to management and clients. I assisted in legal presentations to Customs. During my time at Qube I also successful completed an Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

This role provided me with important Customs broker training for lodging customs entries and direct contact with Australian Border Force and Department of Agricultural. I was trained in customs compliance and review and adopted a personal trait of absolute accuracy. I learnt and developed advanced knowledge on botanical importations including complex Quarantine permits. In this role I also provided training directly to other staff working as cartage co-ordinators and customs clerks.

Customs Classifier role where I received advanced training in the complicated customs matters of Tariff Classification, Anti-Dumping Procedures, Origin and Preference, Tariff Concession Application procedures, Tariff and Valuation Advice. I worked in a specialised unit servicing an industrial chemicals client. This role exposed me to an expanded logistical knowledge of dangerous goods requirements and procedures on terminal requirements and carrier requirements. I successfully passed my National Customs Brokers Exam while working for UTi.

This entry level role also provided mixed learning in import and export operations, payment of invoices to external freight forwarders and arranging delivery of cargo to clients.
