Greetings! I am an Afro-Indigenous (Hopi) social worker with expertise in macro-level practice. My pronouns are she/her, and I have dedicated over a decade to the field of social work. I am deeply passionate about advocating for underserved communities and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health in BIPOC populations.Throughout my journey, I have honed my skills in community building, local and city politics, and grassroots organizing. My involvement has ranged from city-level campaigns to holding leadership positions in renowned non-profit organizations such as YWCA, NCNW, and the ACLU.In 2018, I founded Social Roots, a social work consulting business where I leverage my acquired expertise to the fullest. As the visionary and curator of "ATTITUDE: A Mental Health Summit for African American Women," held in Phoenix, Arizona, I've successfully served over 400 Black women to date with education and access to information on mental health resources. You can find more information about these initiatives at www.socialrootsllc.org.Another venture I co-founded is "Zen to Amen Wellness Retreats," an annual three-day wellness retreat held in different countries during Memorial Day Weekend. Our healing conversations have taken place in beautiful locations such as Montego Bay, St. Lucia, with Cabo San Lucas in May 2023!My commitment to empowering the next generation of students led to the establishment of the Social Roots Foundation in December 2021. We awarded our second round of scholarships from the Social Roots Foundation and awarded two Bernice Kaibetony scholarships in the amount of $1,500.00 to two Indigenous women! This year we launched two ATTITUDE scholarships in the amount of $1,500.00 for two African American women, all four awardees are pursuing careers in the mental health fields. You can learn more about the foundation at www.socialrootsfoundation.org.In addition to earning an MSW, I recently completed a Master of Legal Studies with a focus on Federal Indian Law and Conflict Resolution at the esteemed Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law, Arizona State University in May 2023. My work at NCJTC involves spearheading the Emmett Till Cold Case Investigation Project as the program coordinator, providing training and technical assistance, assessment, and strategic planning to support and solve cold case initiatives rooted in racial violence.
