Recycling Operations Supervisor
•Oversee the day-to-day operations of more than 200 campus recycling collection stations throughout campus•Direct the daily operations of the Recycling Services Department, which include the collection of used containers, cardboard, paper, pallets, e-waste in order to meet California waste management codes AB939, AB2020 for UBC, and SB20 for electronics•Provide ongoing training, orientation, and instruction of recycling operations to staff, which have enhanced customer service and productivity by 50%.•Assist in the preparation and control of the $210,000 department’s budget, monitor private vendors, and prepare reports.•Coordinate the hiring, training, evaluating, and scheduling of front-line collection assistants•Assess the performance of 12 collection assistants on a daily basis by monitoring completeness and progress of projects•Review and update collections manual periodically in response to routing, site locations, and procedural changes to develop efficient operations instructions, techniques, and routing to cover problem situations•Assist, research, and suggest the expansion of new or improved collection programs.•Research, identify, and recommend new collection sites and recycling collection service areas.•Research and recommend purchases of new equipment, supplies, and upgrades to field operations.•Work with and may serve as liaison between student volunteers, residents, staff, and faculty to help foster greater recycling participation. •Monitor general safety and ensure collection assistants participate in health and safety training (lifting, driving, workplace hazards) •Maintain cooperative working relationships with campus staff and external vendors and contractors to insure quality and reliable services.
